Erika Kirk withdrew from a scheduled appearance at the University of Georgia this week after security concerns prompted organizers to cancel her participation, according to Turning Point USA officials.
Kirk had been set to appear Tuesday in Athens alongside Vice President JD Vance at a Turning Point USA event, but pulled out after receiving what organizers described as credible threats. The decision followed a recommendation from her security team that they could not guarantee her safety if she attended.
Turning Point USA spokesperson Andrew Kolvet described the moment the decision was made as “a really unfortunate experience.”
“To see the security team tell us, ‘We cannot guarantee your safety, we recommend that you don’t do this,’ was a really chilling moment for all of us to kind of have to internalize and experience,” Kolvet said Wednesday. “And sometimes you just have to say, ‘Listen, what’s most important is your safety, is your security and your children, your family.’”
Kolvet ultimately appeared at the event in Kirk’s place, joining Vance on stage. He said he was “honored” to “stand in and pinch hit,” while noting the organization had not previously faced a situation like this.
“I think it’s the first time that we’ve ever had to make that decision in Turning Point history,” he said.
The cancellation comes amid heightened tensions and a series of recent incidents involving individuals affiliated with the organization. Kolvet referenced what he described as an assassination of a colleague and a recent attack on Turning Point USA Frontlines reporter Savanah Hernandez in Minneapolis earlier in the week.
“But everything that happened with Charlie, obviously his assassination, we’re still grieving that, and you saw what happened with Savanah Hernandez,” Kolvet said.
Those developments, he said, have led the group to reassess its security posture.
“Kolvet said the recent incidents have heightened security concerns for the organization, emphasizing the need to prioritize safety amid what he described as an increasingly volatile environment.”
Kirk addressed her absence in a post on X, writing: “I was so looking forward to tonight’s event at the @universityofga with our Vice President @JDVance, but after all our family has been through, I take my security team’s recommendations extremely seriously.”

Political events on college campuses have increasingly drawn protests and, in some cases, security concerns in recent years, particularly when high-profile or polarizing figures are involved. Universities and event organizers often coordinate with local law enforcement to manage safety, but decisions about appearances ultimately rest with speakers and their security teams.
The University of Georgia event proceeded as planned with Vance and other speakers, though Kirk’s absence highlighted the broader challenges facing political organizations as they navigate security risks in a charged political climate.

Once again we can ‘see’ just how much these anti-Christian and anti-conservative people are ‘the party of peace’.
How loud would they yell if one of us were to threaten one of their speakers like they do to people like Kirk?
But that won’t happen. They may try to make up such a scenario, but we just don’t treat people in that manner.
We believe in freedom of speech! We believe in teaching, not killing or otherwise destroying people.
But maybe they don’t like her last name. In German, it means ‘church’.
Tough! 😒
Not a very good look for the University of Georgia! Are there Terrorist’s nearby?
What a nasty black mark on a fine university, or used to be one… Today the Left has it all worked out: ‘You either agree with US or you will be eliminated.’
