Thin Blue Line Flag Banned by Los Angeles Police Chief

-

In a move some are calling divisive, ' top cop has issued a ban on public displays of the “thin blue line” flag, most commonly associated with solidarity.

As reported by the LA Times, Police Chief stated the following in an email issued this past weekend:

“Moore said the flag's original meaning of support for police was overshadowed when it began appearing at rallies for the Proud Boys and other far-right extremist groups.

“It's unfortunate that extremist groups have hijacked the use of the ‘Thin Blue Line Flag' to symbolize their undemocratic, racist and bigoted views. Flags serve as powerful symbols with specific meanings,”

The public has had mixed reactions to the announcement from the Los Angeles Police Chief.

A letter to the editor published by the LA Times and written by an individual claiming to be a “lifelong Democrat” states the following:

“If extremists have hijacked the meaning of the “thin blue line” flag, the braver action would be to work on restoring its original meaning instead of caving in and banning its use.

I am proud to have blue-line stickers on my cars, and I am a lifelong Democrat.”

The Police Chief in the city of Los Angeles is appointed to his role by the Mayor, and approved by the Police Commission and City Council. The role is not directly elected.

  1. The Chief of Police has no right to ban anything. His job is to enforce law, not to make it. And then there is that sticky old 1st Amendment.

    • Exactly, since when did anyone vote him into a position to enact laws? And I guess no one is going to remind him of this fact?

  2. Michael Moore you are a TickTurd and are not worthy of being a police chief or being a police officer at all!!!

    • Who do you think Moore is going to call if he’s mugged or his house is broken in to? Yup, the cops! He’s a worthless scumbag who doesn’t deserve to breath the same air we breath.

  3. Typical of the adoption of leftwing propaganda, the LA Police Chief appears to fail to grasp who supports the police and who doesn’t. What a disgrace!

  4. He is a Police Chief and does not make laws. He can only enforce laws. I am sure the Chief is not going to attempt to violate anyone’s First Amendment Right to speech and association.

  5. Mmmm, besides the obvious unconstitutionality and usurpation of power, consider the hypocrisy of his actions.

Has he banned other flags and logos like Antifa, ISIS, Al Qaeda, the Nazi swastika, and the Muslim Brotherhood? I think not!

How about banning using the word “liberal” when talking about Democratic politicians, since they are actually some of the most intolerant of people? No, none of that was done either.

I’m not advocating for these bans. Rather, I am pointing out the hypocrisy of this police chief’s actions and the slippy slope created when you allow the banning of some speech.

  6. I’m a strong supporter of the police, but the flag of this country should not be altered in any way. It also should not be defaced, written on, etc. Any group that wants a flag needs to create one, not bastardize Old Glory.

  7. What else can we expect from police officials who marched arm in arm with BLM rioters, and knelt with them in mock prayers? He has not banned police officers and dept employees from wearing BLM pins or putting up BLM posters and stickers in the workplace.

  8. This has nothing to do with the Proud Boys. The Chief is correct that flags “serve as powerful symbols with specific meanings”, and he just redefined what the “Thin Blue Line” flag meant by aligning the flag with the Proud Boys rather than with police solidarity. If the police Chief associates the flag with bigotry, hatred, and racism, it tells you how little he really thinks of his men.
