Disgraced CNN Boss Lands New Gig With Sports and Media Investment Firm

-

Humiliated ex- boss Jeff Zucker has finally landed a new gig nearly a year after being fired from the network.

While speaking to The Journal, Zucker confirmed he will take over as chief executive at RedBird Capital Partners and International Investments, a sports and media investment firm based in Abu Dhabi.

“It's a time of tremendous change in large part because of technology,” Zucker said during an interview with the Journal, which noted Zucker's job at RedBird Capital will include building, buying and investing in sports, media and entertainment entities. “This is also an incredibly exciting time around what comes next.”

The Journal noted Zucker, before his nearly decade-long career at CNN, ran WarnerMedia's sports properties and while with NBC News in 1986, served as a researcher for the network's coverage of the 1988 Olympic Games.

The partisan former head of CNN was ousted earlier this year following an internal investigation from the network's parent company that found he had violated its personal conduct policy in connection with a romantic relationship with another top CNN executive.

Since his ouster, new CNN president Chris Licht has seemingly upended the network as he seeks to repair its hyper-leftist image. Multiple hosts have either been fired or demoted within the company over the past months.

Last month, Licht also announced mass layoffs at the network.

Our people are the heart and soul of this organization. It is incredibly hard to say goodbye to any one member of the CNN team, much less many. I recently described this process as a gut punch, because I know that is how it feels for all of us.

Today we will notify a limited number of individuals, largely some of our paid contributors, as part of a recalibrated reporting strategy. Tomorrow, we will notify impacted employees, and tomorrow afternoon I will follow up with more details on these changes.

It will be a difficult time for everyone. If your job has been impacted, you will learn more through an in-person meeting or via Zoom, depending on your location. In those meetings, you will receive information specific to you about notice period or any severance that would apply, and your anticipated last day. I want to be clear that everyone who is bonus eligible will still receive their 2022 bonuses, which are determined by company performance.

I know these changes affect both our departing colleagues and those who remain, and we have resources designed to support you. I will include a link to those resources in my follow-up email tomorrow.
