Veteran Fox News analyst Brit Hume surprised many by expressing admiration for Michelle Obama after her speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Tuesday night.
Hume, 81, who has been a mainstay at Fox News for decades and previously hosted “Special Report” before passing the baton to Bret Baier, gave the former first lady rare commendations following her pointed critique of former President Donald Trump.
“I thought she was terrific,” Hume said, according to The Hill:
“I think the speech of the night was Michelle Obama. She is an extraordinarily impressive woman, former first lady of the United States. You can see why members of the Democratic Party always kind of hope that maybe she’d step in and run for president after him in any of these past several cycles,” he said on Fox News.
Obama’s speech on Tuesday received a warm reception from the Democrats at the convention as she targeted Trump over his “Black jobs” comment.
“By the way — who’s going to tell him that the job he’s currently seeking might just be one of those “Black jobs?’” Obama said as the crowd applauded.
Former President Obama delivered the keynote speech of the night after his wife spoke in Chicago, where he also took aim at Trump.
Hume’s praise wasn’t an isolated sentiment. Karl Rove, another prominent Fox News contributor and former senior adviser to then-President George W. Bush, echoed Hume’s opinion, calling Michelle Obama the “star of the show.” Rove also praised Doug Emhoff, the husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, for his “excellent” contribution to the night.
Hume also praised President Joe Biden’s Monday night speech at the convention while acknowledging the historical significance of the president addressing his party’s most devoted supporters after being pressured to end his career by his own party.
“You couldn’t help but feel for Biden,” he reflected. “It was not the ending he anticipated … this was his last meaningful moment as an important force for the party.”
However, Hume did not shy away from criticism. He took issue with Michelle Obama’s call for a return to hope, questioning the sincerity of the message coming from someone who is among the richest of the one percent.
“I can’t imagine a person with the life she’s had – a product of Princeton and Harvard, a former first lady of the United States, living in a magnificent house on Martha’s Vineyard worth about $12 million and another home in Hawaii – why is she still looking for hope?” Hume remarked with more than a touch of irony.

Hume is 81 and just as mentally challenged as Biden. He is sucking up to little liberal Lackey who daddy Murdoch put in charge of Fox. I quit watching it several years ago because of their sharp left turn and betrayal of Trump.
