Reporter Blindsides Liberal Mayor With Lawsuit After Revoking His Press Pass

-

A reporter who tangled with Mayor Lori Lightfoot this year might have lost a battle, but he intends to win the war.

Journalist William Kelly filed a against the Chicago mayor after she had his press credentials revoked following a tense exchange between the two. Kelly claims Mayor Lightfoot revoked his press pass in an attempt to shield herself from difficult questions, violating his First and 14th Amendment rights.

“I was asking the obvious questions, and she lost her temper,” Kelly told “Fox & Friends,” recalling a May exchange when she told him he was “full of crap.”

“Mayor Lightfoot is in re-election mode, and she doesn't want any more embarrassing questions to go viral. So she revoked my credential. … This is a very serious constitutional crisis in the city of Chicago.”

“She wants to win this case against me and then expand this attack on the First Amendment to all the reporters who ask her real questions or any reporter nationally who would dare to ask a real question of a powerful politician,” Kelly said.

In September, Kelly joined “ Tonight” to discuss the lawsuit against Lightfoot and Chicago Police Department Superintendent David Brown where he alleged the two intentionally fabricate an altercation in July between him and the mayor's security detail. Kelly added this “false report” was used as the pretext to keep him out of future press events.

“The problem is that [Brown] sat down and wrote me a letter telling me that he was revoking my media credentials when the police department is down 1,500 officers, we have an out-of-control epidemic, police suicide is at an all-time high,” Kelly said Wednesday. “He's taking time out of his day to write me a letter telling me that he's revoking my media credential.

According to data from the Chicago Police Department, by July the city of Chicago had seen 7,400 guns taken off the streets and had responded to about 1,000 carjackings.

  1. Lori, brillo pad, lighthead is typical 13%er; big mouth & small brain. Chicago voted her in and deserve her.

    • Chicago just can’t seem to elect a good mayor. Back 50 or 60 years ago, in the old Mayor Daley days, the mayors were only a crook. Today the left wing liberals are nothing but anti-America socialists. You would think after so many bad mayors that the people of Chicago would want something better.
