Former cable news king Tucker Carlson released a Christmas Eve interview with blacklisted Academy Award-winning actor Kevin Spacey that was nothing short of bizarre.
Mediaite's Aidan McLaughlin writes that their wide-ranging discussion included next year's (already unprecedented) presidential election and indirectly broached the allegations of sexual assault that destroyed Spacey's career.
Spacey also used the interview to rail against furries, people with an (oftentimes) sexualized interest in anthropomorphic animals and baselessly claimed that the streaming giant Netflix tried to have him killed:
The short interview, published on X, was the latest in Spacey's odd Christmas tradition of reprising the role of Frank Underwood from House of Cards, which he played to much acclaim until he was fired in 2017 over a raft of sexual harassment allegations.
Carlson started the interview by suggesting Spacey could jump into the 2024 race. “It does seem like the presidential race is effectively frozen in place, if not over. We know who the candidates are. It's too late for another to get in. Some have already dropped out. But is it too late? Is there anyone in this country of 350 million people who could jump in at this late date and scramble the calculus of electoral politics? Well, there may be someone and in fact, you already know him. You know his face. And the question is, will he get in this cycle? And that's my question for you.”
The camera then cut to Spacey (I'm going to be honest with you, reader, the reveal gave me a jump scare), who responded in character as Underwood.
“Well, that's really a decision for the people, Tucker,” Spacey said. “It's not something that I really think about or want to do. And Merry Christmas to you, too. But I've always believed that nothing should be off the table in life or in odd. I think we would both agree that we need to get some adults back in the room. So if that means taking on the chief executive role, well, that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make for this great nation.”
Carlson recently launched his own streaming service, the eponymously named Tucker Carlson Network, for $9 per month.
The network is currently accessible through TuckerCarlson.com.
