The House of Representatives on Wednesday approved a war powers resolution aimed at ending unauthorized U.S. military involvement in Iran, marking the most significant congressional challenge yet to President Donald Trump’s handling of the conflict.

The measure, sponsored by Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) invokes the 1973 War Powers Resolution and would require the administration to obtain explicit authorization from Congress before continuing hostilities against Iran, except in cases involving an imminent threat to the United States. The vote followed months of growing bipartisan concern over a conflict that began in.

A new lawsuit in New York is challenging congressional maps on racial grounds, Erika Kirk prepares for her first public interview since her husband’s assassination, and federal agents arrest a man accused of plotting a murder-for-hire against the U.S. Attorney General. Together, the stories weave a thread between politics, power, and safety.

Redrawing the Lines: New York Enters the Gerrymandering Fight

A new lawsuit filed in New York State Supreme Court could reshape the balance of power in the U.S. House.

The case, backed by Democratic attorney Marc Elias, challenges the boundaries of New York’s 11th Congressional District, which spans Staten Island and part of southern Brooklyn. Plaintiffs argue the current map unlawfully dilutes the voting power of black and Latino residents in violation of the Voting Rights Act of New York.

The district — held by Republican Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, the lone GOP member of New York City’s congressional delegation — has seen its black and Latino population grow from 11% to nearly 30% over the past four decades. Plaintiffs claim that despite that growth, minority voters remain “confined” to a district that denies them meaningful representation.

Democrats see the case as part of a broader national push to counter Republican-led redistricting efforts in states like Texas, North Carolina, and Missouri, where mid-decade map redraws have tilted the playing field ahead of the 2026 midterms.

Governor Kathy Hochul has already signaled her support for a fight, saying, “I refuse to sit on the sidelines while our democracy continues to erode.”

If successful, the lawsuit could force a court-ordered redrawing of the district — and possibly flip a key Republican seat.

“This Is the Turning Point”: Erika Kirk to Speak Publicly for the First Time Since Husband’s Murder

Nearly two months after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, his widow Erika Kirk will give her first interview — sitting down with Jesse Watters on Fox News Primetime next Wednesday, November 5.

The segment, filmed partly at Turning Point USA’s Arizona headquarters and during the group’s “This is the Turning Point” tour stop at the University of Mississippi, will air alongside a new multi-part documentary exploring Kirk’s legacy and the moments leading up to his killing at a Utah Valley State event on September 10.

President Donald Trump posthumously awarded Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom earlier this month, calling him “a patriot who inspired millions.” Trump said he considered asking if the ceremony could be pushed back because of his travel schedule, but after learning it was taking place on what would have been her husband’s 32nd birthday, resolved to make it happen as scheduled. “I would not have missed this moment for anything in the world,” Trump said.

Her interview will likely reignite discussion around the growing hostility facing conservative activists.

FBI Foils Murder-for-Hire Plot Targeting U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi

Federal authorities have arrested Tyler Maxon Avalos, a 29-year-old Minnesota man accused of posting a $45,000 bounty for the killing of U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi on TikTok.

The post, according to court documents, featured Bondi’s photo overlaid with a red target and the words “REWARD: 45,000 DEAD OR ALIVE (PREFERABLY DEAD).” The FBI says Avalos used the handle “Wacko” and referenced anarchist materials on his profile.

He now faces a federal charge of transmitting threats across state lines, a felony carrying up to five years in prison. His attorney maintains his innocence.

The case adds to a disturbing trend: escalating political violence against public officials of all parties. A Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) analysis found that between 2016 and 2025, at least 25 attacks or plots targeted elected leaders, judges, or government figures — triple the rate of the prior 25 years.

Polls mirror the anxiety. A PBS/NPR/Marist survey earlier this year found nearly one in three Americans believes political violence may be “necessary” to set the country back on track — a figure that has nearly doubled since 2023.
