Former President Bill Clinton made remarks on the campaign trail yesterday addressing immigration and its impact on the U.S. economy. He highlighted sensitive issues such as birth rates and workforce challenges—topics that many progressives have long considered bigoted.
Clinton’s comments, made while campaigning for Vice President Kamala Harris in rural Georgia, are being interpreted by some as an endorsement of economic arguments linked to controversial immigration theories.
NEW: Former President Bill Clinton appears to confirm the 'replacement theory' is real, says illegal immigration needs to exist because birth rates are low.

“We’ve got the lowest birth rate we’ve had in well over a hundred years. We’re not at replacement level, which means we gotta have somebody come here if we want to keep growing the economy,” Clinton said. “I don’t think Americans are anti-immigration, they’re anti-chaos, right?”
The former president’s remarks echoed concerns shared by many economists, who argue that declining birth rates could result in workforce shortages and economic stagnation. However, his statements have sparked controversy, as they appear to overlap with elements of what liberal politicians and mainstream media figures consider far-right conspiracy theories—especially the idea that illegal immigration is being used to “replace” native-born workers.
Contrasting Views on Labor and Immigration
Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance has recently expressed concerns over declining birth rates while emphasizing the need to reengage the seven million American men who have dropped out of the labor force. Vance argued that before looking to immigration as a solution, the country should focus on tapping into its domestic labor pool.
Vance’s comments come at a time when immigration remains a contentious issue in the political sphere, with both parties proposing vastly different solutions.

Clinton Highlights Illegal Immigrant Murder Case, Adding To Democrats’ Growing Worries
Clinton also referenced the case of Laken Riley, a nursing student in Augusta, Georgia, who was allegedly murdered by an illegal immigrant. Riley’s accused killer, José Antonio Ibarra, a Venezuelan national, entered the U.S. in 2022 under the Biden-Harris administration and has pleaded not guilty to all charges. His trial is set to begin less than two weeks after the 2024 presidential election.
Clinton suggested that the tragedy could have been avoided with stricter vetting procedures for immigrants. “A young woman who had been killed by an illegal immigrant… if they had all been properly vetted, that probably wouldn’t have happened,” he said.
While some have praised Clinton for addressing security gaps, others argue that his remarks risk casting immigration in a negative light for the Democratic ticket, especially at a time when polls and betting markets are increasingly optimistic about former President Donald Trump’s reelection.
Immediate Reaction from Trump Campaign
Following Clinton’s remarks, the Trump campaign was quick to respond with its latest ad.
