The American people have long suffered from a political class that speaks one language on the campaign trail and another in the halls of power. Senator John Cornyn presents a particularly brazen case. His latest reelection campaign casts him as a fiscal conservative standing shoulder to shoulder with President Trump and Elon Musk in the fight against “crazy, wasteful spending.” Yet, a closer examination of his record reveals a glaring contradiction—one that exposes the machinery of Washington’s duplicity with almost surgical precision.
The facts are straightforward. Over the past decade, Cornyn has voted for at least $533 billion in foreign aid. This includes over $174 billion in appropriations for Ukraine, as well as an uninterrupted stream of funding for USAID, an agency whose sprawling bureaucracy has become synonymous with mismanaged, unchecked and often absurd expenditures. His voting record tells a story that flatly contradicts the rhetoric of his campaign. He claims to be a champion of fiscal restraint, yet he has supported virtually every appropriations bill that finances the very spending he decries.
A generous observer might suggest that foreign aid serves strategic national interests. But Cornyn has no such strategic consistency. If he were a pragmatic internationalist advocating robust foreign assistance while acknowledging the costs, his record would at least have the merit of coherence. Instead, he cherry-picks his moments of supposed austerity—most notably when the spending in question benefits the American people rather than foreign governments.
The contrast is especially stark when it comes to border security. While approving hundreds of billions to finance the borders of Ukraine and countless other nations, Cornyn has repeatedly obstructed efforts to fully fund America’s own border wall. He has justified this obstruction on the grounds of fiscal responsibility, arguing that spending “un-offset money” adds to the national debt. This would be an admirable stance—if it were applied consistently. But fiscal prudence, it seems, applies only when it serves as an excuse to avoid supporting Trump’s border agenda. When the spending benefits overseas bureaucracies, Cornyn’s concerns about the debt vanish into thin air.
Even more damning is the fact that Cornyn has actively undermined President Trump’s border security initiatives. Far from being the stalwart Trump ally he pretends to be in campaign ads, Cornyn has in fact been a persistent roadblock to Trump’s immigration policies. He dismissed Trump’s border wall as “naïve,” questioned the former president’s grasp of border issues and even implied that Trump’s political relevance had expired in 2024. These are not the words of a man devoted to securing America’s sovereignty. They are the calculated hedging of a career politician who calibrates his principles based on political expediency.
If Cornyn’s contradictions were confined to border security and foreign aid, they would be damning enough. But the scope of his duplicity is even broader. His support for USAID extends to absurdities such as partnering with Cory Booker to appropriate $300 million for a program to “phase out demand for wildlife as a food source.” The justification? Cornyn was reportedly convinced that COVID-19 originated from bat consumption, despite growing evidence that a lab leak was the far more plausible explanation. This is what he considers a worthy use of American taxpayer dollars.
Cornyn’s defenders might argue that foreign aid is a negligible fraction of the federal budget and that criticisms of such expenditures are overblown. This is a deflection. The issue is not simply the dollar amount; it is the blatant hypocrisy of funding foreign priorities while feigning concern for fiscal discipline when it comes to securing America’s own borders. The American people are asked to believe that securing Ukraine’s sovereignty is an existential imperative, but that defending our own border is fiscally reckless.
The real problem here is not just Cornyn but the entire political culture that enables such deception. Career politicians have mastered the art of running as conservatives while governing as moderates—or worse, as enablers of the very policies they claim to oppose. They count on voters having short memories and assume that well-crafted campaign ads will obscure inconvenient realities. But this bait-and-switch politics cannot hold indefinitely. The American people are growing increasingly disillusioned with leaders who say one thing in Texas and do another in Washington.
What should be done? First, conservatives must demand accountability. The Republican Party must become a party of clear principles rather than transactional politics. No more blank checks for politicians who wrap themselves in the banner of conservatism while rubber-stamping globalist priorities. If the GOP is to remain the party of America First, then it must act accordingly.
Second, Texans must replace Cornyn with a true conservative. Fortunately, there is already a proven fighter leading in the polls by a staggering 40 points: Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. Paxton has shown himself to be a staunch defender of conservative values, standing up to the Biden administration, taking on election integrity issues, and refusing to bow to establishment pressures. Unlike Cornyn, Paxton does not posture as a conservative while voting for globalist priorities—he acts on his principles.
Finally, President Trump and his administration—bolstered by a new wave of America First conservatives—must ensure that Republicans who obstruct the border wall while funding foreign entanglements face primary challenges. The era of complacency must end. If the GOP is to be more than a rhetorical vehicle, then it must enforce ideological discipline within its ranks.
Cornyn’s hypocrisy is not just an embarrassment—it is a case study in the dysfunction of Washington’s uniparty establishment. But the solution is within reach. Ken Paxton offers Texas a real conservative alternative, one who will put America First rather than playing both sides of the fence. The time has come to replace Cornyn with a leader who will fight for Texas, not foreign interests. If Cornyn refuses to put Texans first, then Texas must show him the door.

Ya missed corny being the poster child for that horrendous ‘bi-partisan safer community’ debacle. THAT alone should have gotten the repub party to declare him persona non grata. The biggest issue with moving Paxton into that slot would be finding someone to replace him. BTW, I almost forgot that corny is also the one that forced june teenth on us……………………
Coryn should know by now, he needs to hand the wand over to someone else that can represent Texas better than he has been able to do for a while now. He is not thought of in a good light with his tight association with Mitch McConnell. He felt he was heir apparent. NO. NO. NO
Coryn needs to be replaced. If he’s a patriot, he will resign and help like never before. HELP means HELP America John, not yourself, not your donors, not your handlers. Help America.
A RINO IS AN OFFSPRING OF A DUMBARAT. HE LIES CHEATS AND STEALS JUST LIKE A DUMBARAT .THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT HE SQUIRMED HIS WAY INTO THE REPUBLICAN PARTY BY LYING AND SMOOZING HIS CON STITUENTS INTO BELIEVING HE IS A SOLID REPUBLICAN THAT BACKS TRUMP WHEN IN REALITY HE IS AN UNDERCOVER” DEVIL’S DICIPLE” OF THE DUMBARAT PARTY WHEELING AND DEALING HIS LIES ALONG WITH THEM.
tHE PEOPLE WHO VOTE FOR THESE3 SCUM SUCKING CESS POOL CANDIDATES DO NOT RESEARCH EACH CANDIDATE BEFORE VOTING FOR THEM, THEREFORE THE SLIME, FILTER THEIR WAY INTO OFFICE AFTER CRAWLING OUT FROM UNDER THE ROCK THAT THEY HAVE BEEN HIDING IN. pEOPLE HAVE TO BE MADE AWARE OF THESE SCUM SUCKERS BEFORE THEY BECOME A THREATH TO AMERICA AND THE AMERICAN WAY OF LIFE.. WAKE UP PEOPLE BEFORE YOU KNOW IT THERE WILL BE NO MORE AMERICA IF WE LET THEM SUCCEED. GOD BLESS AMERICA AND THE TRUE AMERICAN PEOPLE!
Cornyn is a Republican Biden – political expediency to retain office is paramount. Responsiveness to constituents is far less important. Frankly, he is an embarrassment to the State of Texas. Now that MacConnell is pretty much out of the picture, this is hopefully Cornyn’s final term. In addition to the criticisms leveled in the article, let’s not forget that Cornyn sponsored major anti-Second Amendment legislation at the behest of MacConnell during the Biden Presidency. It is past time to show him the door. Cornyn is the perfect example of why passing Term Limits is critical.
Americans (mainly the Conservative Voters): Hello. When I saw the title of the piece [about cornyn] the rino… I knew what it was all about before reading it. We could use President Trump’s help to butt this rino from running within the next four years.
I completely agree. Cornyn out and Ken Paxton in!
Excellent well-written article as usual, amuse. I’m not a Texan but have followed Ken Paxton’s political career and would unquestionably vote for him if I could. p.s.Your down-to-earth “spot on” analysis of various issues from an America First, conservative perspective is both remarkable and refreshing. Keep up the good work!
Take OUT the RINOs
John Cornyn has been mitch mcconnells water boy / coffee getter / office boy ever since he has been in the senate. Cornyn has been a huge disappointment for most Texans! The only reason he gets re-elected is because is because he has a R after his name and that plays well in CONSERVATIVE Texas and he is tied to the power brokers in Texas and the national party elites.
The democrats and the rinos will criticize and malign Paxton but Paxton has been a stead fast CONSERVATIVE and has been a force as the Attorney General of Texas.
The only reason we had to vote for cornyn is because there was no alternative. With Paxton in the play the game changes.
Paxton for U.S. Senator from Texas!
