In an appearance on Don Lemon’s podcast, fired MSNBC host Joy Reid predicted that the United States would declare war on Canada and lose.
The spicy comments came on the heels of her departure from MSNBC and the cancellation of her show, The ReidOut. During her final broadcast, Reid discussed concerns about the state of democracy in the U.S. and emphasized the importance of resistance against authoritarianism.
Despite President Trump’s occasional remarks suggesting interest in Canada becoming the 51st state, the likelihood of such an outcome—or a potential U.S.-Canada war—is extraordinarily low.
The two nations share one of the strongest bilateral relationships in the world, underpinned by mutual defense commitments through NORAD and NATO, deep economic ties and a long history of peaceful cooperation.
Reid is partially correct: During the early years of the United States, America did attempt to invade Canada on more than one occasion.
Each time, Canada—with British support—successfully repelled the attacks, and the incursions either strengthened Canadian resolve or helped shape Canadian identity.

During the American Revolutionary War, the Continental Army, led by General Richard Montgomery and Benedict Arnold, invaded British Canada in hopes of rallying support for the revolution.
While the Americans successfully captured Montreal, they failed to seize Quebec City during a brutal winter siege in December 1775. By spring 1776, the siege collapsed and the Americans were forced to retreat, leaving Canada firmly under British control.
Less than two generations later, during the War of 1812, the U.S. launched multiple invasions into Upper and Lower Canada (modern-day Ontario and Quebec), believing that Canadians would embrace “liberation” from British rule.
Key battles at Detroit, Queenston Heights and Lundy’s Lane largely ended in defeat or stalemate for American forces. Although the U.S. managed to burn York (now Toronto), the British retaliated by burning Washington, D.C., including the White House.

The war ended with no territorial gains for either side, and Canada remained under British control—cementing a stable northern border that has lasted for more than two centuries.
Of course, in both the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812, the United States was still in its infancy—politically, economically and militarily.
The Continental Army during the Revolution was poorly funded, loosely organized and heavily reliant on local militias.
By the War of 1812, the U.S. military had improved but was still small, inexperienced and outmatched on the seas. The country also faced internal political division over the war itself.
Meanwhile, the British Army and Royal Navy were widely regarded as the most professional, disciplined and experienced military forces of the era.
Britain was a global superpower with colonial holdings around the world, including strategic bases in Canada and the Caribbean.
In short, the early U.S. was punching far above its weight, while Britain was a dominant imperial power. That’s a big reason why those invasions of Canada failed—the odds were stacked from the beginning.

She’s a couple of bricks short of a pagoda
Neither Lemon nor Ried, in my opinion, as they say in Texas, have enough sense to pour piss out of a boot. Both were fired from the third-rate network, MSNBC which explains everything.
If that isn’t stupidity, I don’t know what is. She thinks she knows so much.
“Reid is partially correct: During the early years of the United States, America did attempt to invade Canada on more than one occasion.

That is technically incorrect. Canada did NOT exist at the time of those attacks. All the territory involved (the British Province of Quebec from 1763 to 1791) was just recently conquered colonies of England, ceded by the French in 1763. Canada did not formally exist until Confederation in 1867. In 1812 it was still just colonies of England protected by the British army.
That prediction would be about as accurate as anything else you hear on MSNBC.
Don Lemon & Joy Reid, 2 racist, America-hating losers who have no credibility.
???????
Just the kind of prediction you would expect from a mental midget loser like Reid. She can’t just let people think she is stupi, she has to open her mouth and prove it
USA 300+ MIL Canada 30 MIL population. Canada’s Pop = Tri-State NY area = all of NY state, Philly and the State of NJ.
Plus, CANADA doesn’t even like ITSELF. Alberta and Quebec have been fighting each other for decades – Quebec only speaks French. Alberta, English. They can’t even communicate with EACH OTHER and both are still under UK rule.
Split pea soup, heh?
Joy Reid is a complete, numb-skulled idiot. She says Canada has as many guns per capita as we do but our population is exponentially greater than Canada’s. Canada did not kick our butts in the war of 1812. It was a draw if anything because neither side saw any gains but we aren’t that fledgling nation any more and our military is one of the best on the planet, even in it’s current diminished state thanks to Jotato and crew. The American military could decimate the Canadian military before lunch and be home for dinner. However, idiot Joy doesn’t realize we are not going to go to war with Canada. She’s just another left-wing, media propagandist wind bag, spreading lies, misinformation and general BS. She’s an embarrassment to American journalism and that is saying a lot in today’s journalistic environment.
Joy Reid and anything she says are irrelevant!! Joy Reid needs to fade into the sunset already.
Great. A loser that looks like, or wants to be a man, and another loser who we all know is more woman than man. Nice couple.
Joy Reid is talking crap. She is so STUPID and brainwashed!
Why didn’t you also include the Reid nonsense about Canada burning down the White House? Yes, she is a HARVARD grad. God only knows how she got that degree (in Film Studies). She missed her calling as a Michael Moore wannabe apparently. This is DEI before DEI, back when the unconstitutional Quota systems were in full swing. Amazing how Colleges and Universities became cesspools of Marxist filth simply by lowering all standards.
