According to The Hill, Enrique Tarrio, the former leader of the Proud Boys who was pardoned by President Donald Trump, has been arrested at the U.S. Capitol. Following his pardon on January 20, 2025, Tarrio was released from prison and returned to Miami. He has since been seen attending events, such as gathering with Trump supporters near the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida to celebrate Presidents’ Day:

A spokesperson for USCP said formal charges have not yet been announced but a statement is imminent.

The arrest, which appeared to stem from an altercation with a counter protester, took place between the Capitol and Washington’s Union Station. Two counter protesters were seen filling out what appeared to be police reports.

Tarrio was arrested for allegedly assaulting the counter protester and throwing their phone.

WARNING: EXPLICIT LANGUAGE

Tarrio had been serving a 22-year sentence for seditious conspiracy related to the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol before his pardon.

In contrast to Tarrio, Stewart Rhodes, founder of the Oath Keepers, had his 18-year sentence commuted by President Trump. A commutation reduces the severity of a sentence but does not nullify the conviction itself.

Since his release, Tarrio has expressed his intention to pursue a political career. In a recent interview with Newsmax, he stated, “I think my future is in politics. I think I’m gonna take a serious look at running for office at some point in 2026 or 2028.” Tarrio mentioned that while he has made the decision to run, he is still considering which specific office or district to target, whether at the local or federal level.

Other reports suggest that Tarrio is contemplating a bid for Florida’s 1st Congressional District, a seat previously held by Matt Gaetz. Tarrio remarked, “If I do run, I want to be in that building that they accused me of trying to storm,” referring to the U.S. Capitol.
