A new Emerson College national poll released Friday reveals that a plurality of American voters feel more patriotic under President Donald Trump’s leadership, highlighting a resurgence in national pride early into his second term.
According to the survey, 39% of voters said Trump’s presidency has strengthened their feelings of patriotism. Meanwhile, 34% reported no change in their sense of national pride, and 27% said Trump’s time in office made them feel less patriotic.
The results underscore the sharp partisan divide surrounding Trump’s presidency. Among Republicans, a full 67% said his leadership has boosted their patriotism. By contrast, 45% of Democrats said Trump’s presidency weakened how patriotic they feel. Independent voters were split: 31% reported an increase in patriotic sentiment, 30% reported a decrease, and 39% said Trump had no impact on their patriotic feelings.
The poll also showed Trump’s approval rating holding steady, with 45% of respondents saying they approve of the job he is doing and 46% disapproving — a statistical tie within the poll’s margin of error.
Trump has made patriotism a central theme of his return to office. On June 14, he hosted a military parade in Washington, D.C., to commemorate the 250th birthday of the U.S. Army — an event he promoted as a show of national strength and unity. Earlier this year, Trump signed an executive order establishing a White House task force to prepare for the country’s upcoming 250th anniversary in 2026.
The celebration marked one of several high-profile patriotic displays by the Trump administration since his inauguration in January, part of a broader effort to brand the president’s second term as a revival of American pride and tradition.
The Emerson College Polling national survey was conducted June 24–25, sampling 1,000 active registered voters across the United States. The poll has a credibility interval — comparable to a margin of error — of ±3 percentage points. The data was weighted by gender, education, race, age, party registration, and region, in alignment with U.S. Census and voter file data.
Despite growing political polarization, the poll suggests that Trump’s focus on patriotic symbolism is having a measurable impact, particularly among his Republican base. Whether that momentum carries into broader national unity or reinforces existing divides remains to be seen.
