In a notable shift, Republicans have secured victories in the U.S. territories of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands, signaling a rightward shift in regions traditionally led by Democrats.
Guam: GOP Flips Legislature, Maintains Delegate Seat
In Guam, Republican incumbent James Moylan won reelection as the island’s nonvoting delegate to the U.S. Congress, defeating his Democratic challenger by a margin of 5.88%, with results from all 72 precincts counted.
Earlier today, Guam conducted its presidential straw poll—a tradition in place since 1980—which gave the GOP another boost. Vice President Kamala Harris edged out Donald Trump by a mere 3%, a significant rightward swing compared to the 2020 results, when Biden led by 13%, and even more so from 2016 when Hillary Clinton won by a whopping 47% margin. Tuesday’s 9-point shift from 2020 provides Republicans with optimistic indicators for broader national gains.

Adding to their victories, Republicans made historic inroads in Guam’s legislative branch. Initial exit polling hinted at a potential GOP win, which was later confirmed by the Pacific Daily News. Republicans have taken control of the 15-seat Guam Legislature with a 9-6 majority. Democrats had held a similar advantage before this election, maintaining control for 16 consecutive years prior.
Northern Mariana Islands: Republican Kimberlyn King-Hinds Wins At-Large Delegate Seat
Over in the Northern Mariana Islands, Republicans celebrated another win as Kimberlyn King-Hinds captured the at-large delegate seat for the U.S. Congress. King-Hinds’ victory represents a significant gain for the GOP, as she succeeds retiring Democratic Rep. Gregorio Sablan. Her win also marks a milestone: King-Hinds becomes the second woman and the first Republican to ever hold the seat, a historic achievement for the party.
