President-elect Trump is making waves with his potential Cabinet picks…
On Thursday, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R) was asked to weigh in on President-elect Donald Trump‘s controversial nomination of former Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz to be his attorney general.
Newsline anchor Bianca de la Garza asked Cruz of Gaetz, “The question is, will he make it through confirmation? Will you vote to confirm him? What do you think of him as a pick? Because Trump put it out there on the Truth, saying he’s going to root out corruption at the DOJ. He wants honesty, integrity, transparency. Are you on board with him as attorney general, Senator Cruz?”
“Well, I think it is critically important that we root out the partisan bias that under Joe Biden has infected the Department of Justice, as it infected the FBI. Joe Biden has weaponized our law enforcement and used it to target his political enemies. That has to end,” Cruz replied, eventually turning to the question:
As for that particular nomination, look, we have a process under the Constitution where the Senate provides advice and consent. And I trust that process. That nominee, like every other will, will have a vigorous vetting, will have confirmation hearings. And every nominee is going to be going to be judged on the merits.
I will say that was a pick that was, I think, very surprising to the entirety of the Senate. And so we’ll assess the nominee on the merits. But but there is a process that will unfold that examines a particular nominee’s background, their experience and their suitability for a role.

De la Garza followed up, “So you’re keeping an open mind. We know that Mike Lee from Utah, who you’re on the Judiciary Committee with, was also floated on the shortlist. What do you make of that?”
“Well, listen, Mike Lee is a dear friend and an incredible lawyer and a constitutional warrior. I don’t know that there’s a more important position in this Trump administration than attorney general. And so I think it’s critical to have someone there who will follow the law, who has integrity, who is a constitutionalist, and who has the courage to root out the incredible partisanship and weaponization that has infested this DOJ,” Cruz replied, adding:
Look, I’m an alumnus of the Department of Justice, and DOJ has a long, long tradition of being nonpartisan, following the law regardless of someone’s party. And it needs to return to that tradition. And it’s going to take a very strong leadership of the Department of Justice to get there.
Gaetz’s nomination has been met with surprise and concerns from members of both sides of the political aisle, signaling an uphill road to be confirmed.
On Wednesday, president-elect Donald Trump officially nominated Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz to be the next Attorney General.
Read the full statement:
It is my Great Honor to announce that Congressman Matt Gaetz, of Florida, is hereby nominated to be The Attorney General of the United States. Matt is a deeply gifted and tenacious attorney, trained at the William & Mary College of Law, who has distinguished himself in Congress through his focus on achieving desperately needed reform at the Department of Justice. Few issues in America are more important than ending the partisan Weaponization of our Justice System. Matt will end Weaponized Government, protect our Borders, dismantle Criminal Organizations and restore Americans’ badly-shattered Faith and Confidence in the Justice Department. On the House Judiciary Committee, which performs oversight of DOJ, Matt played a key role in defeating the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, and exposing alarming and systemic Government Corruption and Weaponization. He is a Champion for the Constitution and the Rule of Law. Matt will root out the systemic corruption at DOJ, and return the Department to its true mission of fighting Crime, and upholding our Democracy and Constitution. We must have Honesty, Integrity, and Transparency at DOJ. Under Matt’s leadership, all Americans will be proud of the Department of Justice once again.
Gaetz resigned from Congress on Wednesday following the nomination.

If the Marxist liberals are yelling NO, then this must be the right guy for the job to jail the crooks..
We voted to completely turn Washington, DC swamp upside down and shake the cred out. I voted for you every time you have run, Senator Cruz. I live in your neighborhood and respect you. I do recall the first time you became a member of the senate – Trump helped you get relected. Regardless of your views, but as a a MAGA voter you owe it to us to listen. Look at all the senators who didnt return because they didnt listen to us. Support Trump and his picks – sorry but your opinions dont matter to us right now. Get to work! Youre hot smarter than us.
Every President deserves the Cabinet he wants regardless of the Party in Power. This is the tradition set for Centuries in the Congress. the Senate is to advise and consent. If you just can’t bring yourself to consent go on vacation and the President can make recess appointment. Ted Cruz is being much to whinny and trying to control things he does not need to control. If Trump wanted Senator Cruz he would have nominated him. This is the kind of behavior that drags Cabinet nominees on for up to two years. Thank you Senator Crus for playing into the Democrats hand to block President Trump efforts to hit the ground running on day one. Foolish you are.
You would think after 2016 that President Trump knows what he is doing this time. He does! Anyone trying to sabotage President Trump’s cabinet after the last eight years, need to get on the train and confirm. Enough!!
I’m saddened that Matt Gaetz threw in the towel. I truly believe that he was the best person for the job. All you senators who are soo anxious for the report on Mr. Gaetz to be released, how about releasing ALL the reports and exposing what you did and how much money it cost us taxpayers for “HUSH” MONEY. AS THEY SAY, “WHAT’S GOOD FOR THE GOOSE IS GOOD FOR THE GANDER”!!!!
