A new excerpt from the book Fight: Inside the Wildest Battle for the White House has provided fresh insights into the failed negotiations between Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign and Joe Rogan’s team for a podcast appearance during the 2024 election cycle. The failed talks highlight not only the campaign’s difficulties in securing crucial media opportunities but also its reluctance to engage in substantive conversations on key issues like the economy and immigration—areas where Harris’ public support was already weak.
According to the authors, Fight‘s Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes, Rogan’s team initially sent over a list of conditions for Harris’ interview, which included no staff in the studio, no topic restrictions, and a waiver from the vice president. Harris’ camp, in turn, suggested topics such as social media censorship and cannabis legalization.
However, Rogan was focused on discussing issues that mattered most to voters: “the economy, the border, and abortion.” Readers should note that these three issues were consistently listed as the most pressing concerns for voters throughout the 2024 cycle. Harris’ team suggested they meet in Michigan, but Rogan’s camp insisted on an Austin location, with no room for compromise. It wasn’t long before Harris’ team proposed that she visit Houston—ostensibly for a rally—just to be in proximity to Rogan’s Austin studio. But even this gesture appeared to backfire, as they claimed Rogan’s team refused to accommodate her schedule.
However, it’s worth noting that Rogan’s account of the situation contradicts some of the claims made in Fight. According to Rogan, he was in fact willing to meet Harris around her Houston rally, showing flexibility on timing. Rogan has said that he was open to accommodating her schedule, contrary to the book’s portrayal of the negotiations. Rogan’s version of events casts doubt on whether the Harris team truly explored every option for securing the interview or whether they were looking for an excuse to get out of it, knowing that interviews weren’t Harris’s strong suit.
Adding another layer of controversy to the situation, the Harris campaign’s Houston rally—which was marketed as an opportunity to mobilize voters on reproductive rights—has drawn scrutiny for the massive $10 million expenditure on a five-minute speech by pop icon Beyoncé. The rally was deceptively advertised as a “free Beyonce concert,” creating a media frenzy that, in hindsight, seemed more like an attempt to generate hype. The brief and expensive Beyoncé appearance, which had little to do with the campaign’s actual messaging, only heightened perceptions of a campaign more focused on optics than meaningful discussions on issues that mattered to voters.
With Harris’ approval ratings slipping on these fronts, her avoidance of interviews that might have allowed her to present a more detailed, thoughtful policy platform seemed like a missed opportunity to reassure voters and strengthen her position heading into the election.
Rogan’s podcast could have been the perfect platform for her to seriously engage with these topics in front of a wide, ideologically diverse audience. Instead, her campaign’s missteps and reluctance to directly address these issues led to an opportunity squandered.
Trump, in a three-hour, no-holds-barred conversation with Rogan, quickly gained traction, his appearance going viral and sparking conversation. As Harris’ camp scrambled to finalize talks, Trump’s interview was already garnering positive attention. This moment, according to an unnamed Harris aide, was a “traumatic event” for the campaign.

She couldn’t do a meaningful interview because she just doesn’t have the knowledge to do so. All she can do is repeat the same non-sensical “statement” over two or three times. She was in over her head in the VP position. And, she’s thinking of running for President! Does she not remember the primary run in 2016 and what place she was in when she dropped out? Does she think she has improved and the people have forgotten?
Nothing Kamala could have done would have changed the outcome of the election as Biden had the country in such a turmoil. She had no credentials what so ever and no qualifications for the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. This is not a popularity contest, this is making someone STRONG the leader of the free world. While I may not agree with some of President Trump’s decisions, he is a strong leader and , I believe, he has the country’s best interests at heart and he demands respect from other world leaders which was shown in his first few days back in office. I, 100 percent support him and his efforts to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. Best of luck Mister President.
It’s pretty funny suggesting that Kamala would be capable of presenting “a more detailed, thoughtful policy platform,” whatever the conditions were for the interview. And three hours worth? Not remotely possible.
