President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance have come out strongly against a proposed government spending deal, aligning with a fast-growing faction of Republicans critical of the plan’s scale and impact.

The spending package, which spans over 1,500 pages, has faced backlash from conservative lawmakers who argue it undermines Trump’s priorities, particularly the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) is reportedly exploring alternative approaches, with insiders suggesting a “plan B” that could involve a clean continuing resolution (CR).

DOGE chief Elon Musk has added fuel to the fire, using his platform on X to pressure House Republicans. Musk’s posts on Wednesday warned lawmakers against supporting the deal and suggested he would back primary challengers for any Republican who votes in favor of the CR. The remarks sent shockwaves through Capitol Hill, forcing GOP leaders to reconsider their strategy.

The Hill has more:

Trump in a lengthy statement said lawmakers should pass a “streamlined spending bill that doesn’t give Chuck Schumer and the Democrats everything they want.”

“Republicans want to support our farmers, pay for disaster relief, and set our country up for success in 2025,” Trump said. “The only way to do that is with a temporary funding bill WITHOUT DEMOCRAT GIVEAWAYS combined with an increase in the debt ceiling. Anything else is a betrayal of our country. Republicans must GET SMART and TOUGH.

“If Democrats threaten to shut down the government unless we give them everything they want, then CALL THEIR BLUFF,” he added.

Trump’s comments come after several of his allies and a slew of House Republicans spent the day venting about the roughly 1,500 page bill, which was unveiled Tuesday evening. Lawmakers must pass a funding bill and get it to President Biden’s desk before midnight Friday to avert a government shutdown.

A raise for the congressmen, plus immunity for all the Jan.6th assholes that spent America’s money trying to convict the only President that is trying to stand up against the Deep State. I want our country back. Ya’ll better look like working for the American people instead of yourselves. Especially you Mike Johnson, Your from our state. I can’t believe you would stoop that low, and line your own pockets. You won’t have my vote if you pass this CR bill with out all the hoopla in it…. Think about serving America like your suppose to do.

Let them shut the Gov. down, it has been done before and functioned on a CR. If their pay raise in in this bill it really needs to not pass. They haven’t done a whole lot for the citizen’s in quite some time, and a 2.5 % COLA in nothing but a joke. They wait for the last couple months of the year to figure out the COLA and then in Nov. the inflation was at 2.7%. During the Obama administration we didn’t receive a COLA increase, but was told to tighten up our belts.
This whole thing is nothing but a joke. They could care less about this country’s citizens. Why should they their in Congress to get rich.
I’m a 30 year Veteran and I’m sure glad the military does not operate like the people on the hill. This country is big business and should be run by someone that knows how businesses operate.

    Respectfully
