Amid heightened scrutiny from both legacy media outlets and political opposition on Capitol Hill, President-elect Donald Trump is taking a new approach to communication by launching a transition newsletter aimed at providing direct, transparent updates to the American people. The inaugural edition of the “Road to 47” newsletter is set to launch on Tuesday, marking a pivotal shift in how Trump’s team will communicate key developments about the transition process, his Cabinet picks, and future policy initiatives. The newsletter is designed to break free from the traditional media narrative and provide real information for those frustrated by what they perceive as aggressively critical reporting on Trump.
Trump’s spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, told The Daily Wire that the newsletter is a crucial step in ensuring the American people have a trusted resource to keep them up to date as Trump builds out his team and agenda. “For far too long, the American people have been kept in the dark by bureaucrats and elites in Washington, DC,” she said. “The Trump-Vance Transition newsletter will deliver top news, updates on the transition process, details on President Trump’s brilliant Cabinet picks, and video highlights.”
The first issue highlights a $100 billion investment in the U.S. economy announced by SoftBank’s CEO, who expressed confidence in the country’s future under Trump’s victory. The newsletter also takes a victory lap on Trump’s economic success, referring to the investment as a manifestation of the “Trump Effect.”
Additionally, the inaugural edition features coverage of Trump’s visit to the New York Stock Exchange, his appearance at the Army-Navy game, and his Person of the Year recognition by Time Magazine. These events are showcased as examples of Trump’s momentum, positioning him for a successful second term. The newsletter promises to also spotlight Trump’s Cabinet nominees and their progress toward confirmation on Capitol Hill.
This initiative is likely a direct counter to the critical media environment Trump faced during his previous administration and continues to face heading into 2025. The Trump transition team is working to create a transparent, direct line of communication with the American public, avoiding what they see as biased and one-sided reporting from legacy media outlets.
Tommy Pigott, a former strategic communications director for the Republican National Committee, will be a key writer of the newsletter, collaborating with Eric Leydon. Pigott noted that the newsletter will focus on stories that might otherwise be ignored or underreported by mainstream media. For example, the first edition highlights a Daily Wire investigation into the Biden administration’s push to sell off unused border wall materials. Trump, who has been vocal about his commitment to finishing the border wall, commented on the issue, calling the Biden administration’s actions “almost a criminal act.”
By providing a regular stream of information, the Trump transition team aims to keep supporters engaged and energized in the weeks leading up to the inauguration.
There is also growing speculation that Trump could reshape the media landscape entirely during his second term. In a recent conversation with The Daily Wire, Donald Trump Jr., the president’s son and senior advisor, hinted at the possibility of reworking the White House press briefings to include more non-traditional media outlets. He suggested that there could be a complete overhaul of the press room seating chart to allow more independent and conservative media voices to ask questions and have access to the president.
