WASHINGTON — June 18, 2025 — The U.S. Supreme Court today upheld Tennessee’s law prohibiting gender-affirming medical treatment — specifically puberty blockers and hormone therapy — for minors under 18, in a 6–3 decision.
As The Hill reports:
The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld Tennessee’s ban on puberty blockers and hormone treatments for transgender minors in a 6-3 decision that stands to impact similar laws passed in roughly half the country.
Rejecting a challenge mounted by the Biden administration, the high court ruled Tennessee’s law does not amount to sex discrimination that requires a higher level of constitutional scrutiny, removing a key line of attack that LGBTQ rights advocates have used to try to topple similar laws.
“Having concluded it does not, we leave questions regarding its policy to the people, their elected representatives, and the democratic process,” Chief Justice Roberts wrote for the majority.
Tennessee’s law, S.B. 1, prohibits health care providers from administering puberty blockers or hormone therapy to transgender minors when the medications are prescribed to help them transition. The law, which Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee (R) signed in 2023, also bans gender-transition surgeries for minors, though that provision was not at issue before the high court. Providers who violate the law can face $25,000 civil fines for violations.
🔹 Key Points:
- The Court applied rational basis review, ruling that Tennessee acted within its authority to regulate medical care for minors.
- With 26 other states enacting similar bans, the ruling significantly bolsters state-level authority on the issue of gender-affirming care.
🔹 Legal & Medical Context:
- Tennessee’s SB 1, effective July 1, 2023, prohibits gender-affirming treatments for minors, while still allowing the same therapies for other conditions (e.g., precocious puberty).
- The Biden administration and families of transgender youth challenged the law under the 14th Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause, arguing it is discriminatory.
- Leading medical organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Endocrine Society, support gender-affirming care as evidence-based and essential. They warn that legislative bans increase risks, including higher suicide attempt rates among trans youth.
🔹 Implications:
- The ruling shields similar state laws from constitutional challenges and strengthens the legal defense of such measures nationwide.
- Opponents may now pivot to federal lawsuits or executive actions, arguing that rational basis review fails to reflect evolving legal protections for transgender individuals.
- Health care providers in affected states may begin relocating services across state lines to continue treating transgender minors.

Tulsi showed promise but SHE is not in charge. I guess she will be either isolated or fired. And I am positive Trump knows more than she does about the situation.
Dems, liberals, the LGBTQ crew and the MSM do not talk about the major part of “gender affirming care”. They hide behind talk about drugs and surgeries. A major goal is to circumvent the age of consent and ensure the kids have sex as quickly as possible. The LBGTQ crew say kids will be damaged for life if they do not have sex. They say it is cruel to expect them to wait til the age of consent. They claim kids need to experience sex to be sure they have made the right gender choice.
