New Report Reveals FBI Had People Voluntarily Give Up 2A Rights

-

A report released by the Daily Caller News Foundation (DCNF) earlier today revealed that the presented forms to individuals in several states that allowed people to voluntarily “red flag” themselves, giving up their ability to ever own firearms.

Individuals did this by signing a form known as the NICS Indices Self-Submission Form. These were signed by “at least 15 people between 2016 and 2019” at the urging of federal agents, the report alleges.

Per the DCNF's report:

“The forms were presented by the FBI to people at their homes and in other undisclosed locations, according to bureau documents unearthed through the of Information Act by the firearm rights group Gun Owners of America (GOA) and shared with the DCNF. At least 15 people between 2016 and 2019 signed the secret forms, which ask signatories to declare themselves as either a “danger” to themselves or others or lacking “mental capacity adequately to contract or manage” their lives.

The form specifies that signatories will be permanently registered with the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) — which the form states would legally bar signatories from being able to “purchase, to possess and to use any firearm.” It is unclear what exact criteria the FBI used to identify signatories, but some forms include bureau notes detailing ongoing investigations.

Many signatories allegedly made violent threats in online chat rooms, in person and on social platforms, FBI notes show. The 15 signed forms obtained by the DCNF show FBI agents in Massachusetts, Michigan and Maine presented them to Americans — whose names were redacted by the bureau.”

The DCNF also added:

“While the existence of the FBI form itself was first revealed in 2019 by the firearms blog Ammoland, the outlet did not provide evidence of it being used at the time. GOA obtained the signed forms as part of its lawsuit initiated in January 2020 against the bureau to compel disclosure of records related to the forms.

An FBI spokesperson told the DCNF that the Bureau stopped using the forms in December 2019 but did not say why.

The debate over red flag laws has been a key topic of discussion within the gun community over the past several months. When President Biden signed the “Bipartisan Safer Communities Act” into law earlier this summer, firearms advocates were concerned over the legislation because it contained millions of dollars in funding for states to enforce “red flag laws.”

American Liberty contributor Tom Knighton also recently noted that “we've been told that red flag laws … take guns from dangerous people,” yet a recent murder suspect in had his firearms taken away and was still able to commit his alleged crimes.

  1. I’m the strongest Second Amendment supporter you will ever run into but, in this case, those idiots who surrendered their right are no doubt too damn dumb to ever be trusted with a gun in the first place.

    • Or were they coerced into signing the forms with a threat of commitment into a mental facility or prosecution and incarceration for some misdemeanor and didn’t have a chance or the means to consult with an attorney first? After all, this is the FBI we are talking about. Nearly all of their agents these days have law degrees and know the ins and outs much better than your average civilian …and probably better than the average attorney.

      • Frightening thoughts, Sabel! If what you suggest is indeed the case, then we are well on the way to the Soviet Republic of America. The Soviets used to confine incorrigible dissidents in mental hospitals and some of them who would not remain silent were even lobotomized.
