St. Petersburg Mall Evacuated Due To Terror Threat

Russian authorities initiated evacuation procedures at one of the country’s largest malls after a man said he planted explosives inside.

Sunday’s mass evacuation from the London Mall in St. Petersburg’s Nevsky District comes less than 48 hours after four members of the Islamic State – Khorasan Province allegedly killed at least 137 people in a shooting/slashing spree at the Crocus City Hall music venue outside of Moscow. A media outlet linked to ISIS released several minutes of footage filmed by the attackers. In the video, they can be shooting at and silting the throats of concertgoers while chanting “Allah Akbar” and denouncing Christianity.

Following a massive manhunt, Russia’s Federal Security Service took the surviving gunmen into custody following day. One was killed in the Crocus City Hall attack. Another perished in Bryansk Oblast, 200 miles southwest of Moscow. (RELATED: Violent Criminals Interrupted At Border)

The latest terrorist incident to occur in Russia, and the deadliest since 2004’s Beslan school siege, has left the nation of 145 million on edge.

According to the Nevsky District’s press service, firefighters have arrived at the scene, where police officers were seen escorting a suspect outside.

The evacuation is reportedly the second this weekend in St. Petersburg following Friday’s attack in Moscow.
