Soccer Star And Trump Antagonist Megan Rapinoe Announces Retirement

-

The co-captain of the U.S. Women's National team surprised the sports world Saturday.

At a press conference in San Jose, , , 38, revealed her intention to retire at the end of this year's National Women's Soccer League season. The decision would make her upcoming Women's World Cup appearance her last. (RELATED: Judge Rules In Favor Of Athlete Benched For Refusing BLM Kneel)

During the Trump administration, Rapinoe arguably became the most politically outspoken athlete in the country.

She repeatedly used her airtime to bash then-President , calling him “racist” and “small-minded” in interviews.

She admitted in 2019, to her dismay, that her father almost certainly voted for Trump. “You guys need to go to therapy,” she said of her right-wing parents in one of the world's most widely circulated newspapers at the time. Under Rapinoe's leadership, the women's national soccer team turned down a visit to the White House after winning the 2019 World Cup.

She has also criticized her parents for their cable news preferences, as reported at the time:

“I'm very similar to how they are, even though I think my dad voted for Trump, and I'll say, ‘I don't get it. How are you simultaneously as proud as punch of me, and watching Fox News all the time, [who are doing] takedowns of your daughter?'” she told The Guardian. “That's why I'm like, ‘You guys need to go to therapy.'”

She said there have “been some major blow-ups” with her family, but noted she's very close to them.

Despite visiting the White House in 2012, when Barack Obama was president, Rapinoe — who has kneeled during “The Star-Spangled Banner” before soccer games and otherwise often protests by not placing her hand over her heart during the national anthem — said she would never visit the White House as long as Trump is president. Before her team's FIFA Women's World Cup win in July, Rapinoe said she's “not going to the f—ing White House,” and questioned whether the women's squad would even be invited.

Trump in June tweeted he's a “big fan of the American Team, and Women's Soccer, but Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job!”

  1. Megan Rapinoe is just like Meghan Markle in one way. Both of them are nothing more than self absorbed loud mouthed narcissistic twits who think that the world revolves around them.

  2. Kaepernick 2.0. He made millions bad mouthing just about everything and became the “spokesperson “ for Nike. Rapinoe did the same but didn’t make the kind of money that Kaepernick did as she was second to do it.
Kaepernick’s antics changed more than just football’s national anthem routine, as basketball copied it almost immediately. ( a good reason to stop watching both)
Rapinoe, being more aligned with Nike, rather than our nation, began the same disrespectful demonstration with the national anthem. With the audience being smaller she had to step up by dissing the president, and the rest of the useful idiots on the team joined her.
Good riddance, and don’t bring any CBD with you when you travel, I’d hate to see all that anti-Americanism go to waste while you wait to be bailed out in a foreign prison.

  3. I hate when headline says an icon and then it turns out to be a nobody like rapinoe who had one day in the sun and now everyone has forgotten!

  4. didn’t she get cut? how is she back on the team? did they ‘feel’ that they ‘owed’ her a world stage for a swan song? after all the damage she’s done to the reputation of the national team?
