The kicked off its latest season Thursday night with a gridiron matchup between the and . Before kickoff, a pre-game performance elicited a strong reaction from the audience, clearly audible to viewers at home.

It was a tale of two national anthems, as The Western Journal reported:

Some fans weren't happy when a local choir performed a song considered by some to be the “black ” before the Kansas City Chiefs hosted the Detroit Lions in the league's season opener at Arrowhead Stadium.

The choir's performance of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” took place before “The Star-Spangled Banner” was sung.

The Kansas City Boys and Girls Choir performed the rendition of the song, according to KCTV-TV.

Some supporters of the song noticed the negative reaction, accusing the fans who expressed displeasure of racism.

Gospel singer Natalie Grant followed that performance with her rendition of the national anthem.

  1. It’s truly bewildering how a minority group, this includes the Rainbow faction, can get such a strangle hold on the rights of ‘ALL’ Americans and able to impose ‘their’ extreme prejudiced views on everyone. Trying to implicate all of America as Racists if they don’t bow done to their misguided and racist ideologies that because history had shown slavery was ‘unfair’, all Americans ‘owe’ reparations. Many Americans of a different color (including White) came from countries bereft of civil justice and treatment. So, why do they owe anything to anyone after managing to take care of their own self and families through their own will and diligence? Africans started the export of slavery so shouldn’t Africa be the nation to be held liable for the Blacks social plight in America?
