The Dismantle DEI Act, introduced by Rep. Michael Cloud (R-Texas), passed the Oversight Committee by a 23-17 vote and argues that DEI programs have undermined the progress the U.S. has made on racial equality. Cloud emphasized that DEI initiatives—once focused on equal opportunity—have morphed into a set of policies that many believe stoke racial division rather than healing it. In his remarks, Cloud highlighted America’s history on the issue, from the abolition of slavery to the civil rights movement, underscoring the country’s progress in achieving racial equality.
However, Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Massachusetts), a prominent member of the left-wing “Squad,” fiercely disagreed with Cloud’s assessment. She accused Republicans of denying the existence of racism, calling the bill an “utter disgrace.” She accused Republicans of ignoring and diminishing America’s racial history, insisting the legislation would prevent necessary discussions.
Pressley’s opposition to the Dismantle DEI Act took a particularly charged tone when she chastised Republicans for invoking Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s name in their arguments. Pressley accused GOP lawmakers of “perverting” King’s words and ideals in order to justify their opposition to DEI programs.
“Please keep Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s name out of your mouths,” Pressley said, “Your perversion of his words and his mission when his children have asked you to stop invoking his name and perverting his work when he was a proud and unapologetic black man fighting for equality for Black Americans and all marginalized people.”
This was somewhat ironic, as Kamala Harris invoked the memory of the late John McCain in appeals to moderates and establishment Republicans — especially in Arizona, where he served as a senator — despite continued protests from his daughter.
“Do you all know your history? Do you know American history?” Pressley asked her GOP colleagues. “The original Constitution counted enslaved individuals as three-fifths of a person. During World War II, the federal government forcibly relocated and incarcerated 110,000 Japanese Americans. The FHA practiced redlining in the 1930’s and 60’s to deny mortgages to Black Americans, which is why we have a racial wealth gap today.”
Pressley used historical examples of discrimination to advocate for what many characterize as another form of discrimination.
Rep. Cloud and other Republican proponents of the Dismantle DEI Act argue that the growth of DEI offices within the government has shifted from promoting equal opportunity to a regressive agenda that emphasizes racial categories over merit and shared American values. In Cloud’s view, DEI policies have created more division than unity and often divert resources and attention away from efforts that would genuinely improve the lives of marginalized groups.
Cloud pointed out that the civil rights movement of the 1960s was about achieving equality under the law, but today’s DEI programs, in his view, are about creating separate policies for different racial groups. He and other Republicans believe that the federal government should shift towards color blind policies, rather than race-based initiatives that create an uneven playing field.
The bill, in its essence, is a move away from what critics perceive as a culture of “identity politics” and a return to a system where the focus is on individual qualifications rather than group identity. Advocates believe this shift will ultimately benefit all Americans by fostering an environment of unity and equality before the law.

Pressley, one of the worst race baiting women out there. Instead of celebrating all the good things, she always focuses on the bad, always living in the past, always doing the very thing she accuses others of. Always causing division. She is pathetic. And in reality, there is only ONE race, the Human Race, different cultures, different languages and different shades of skin from light to dark. And only because of the melanin programmed into our DNA. If she was so worried about equality, maybe she should try to protect babies in the womb instead of advocating for their murder. She is the ultimate liar and hypocrite. And I have never heard MLK’s family ever tell people not to say his name. And just like the rest of us, he was no saint. The perversion is with her and the squad. He would be ashamed of them if he were alive.
Martin Luther King, Jr. was not a racist as these people are. Pressley thinks she is far more important than she is or ever will be. She is as anti-American as the rest of the Squab.
Time to hire for qualifications not color of the skin, hair and eyes! Pressley and the rest of the squad are so afraid of competition they wish to continue a limping hiring system. Instead of bringing down the skills, maybe the challenged need to focus on gaining skills to be competitive. Seems like dumbing down has been done for those who will not focus on gaining skills yet they were still hired over better candidates. I have hated this since its inception, glad they are voting it OUT!
