In what Houston police are calling a “drive-by shooting” at a convenience store, the black Cadillac Escalade a Dominican Republic government official's son was sitting inside was riddled with gunfire. As the smoke cleared and so did the three suspects, the government official's son was dead and another man was critically injured.
The shooting, which took place at about 7:25 pm on April 1, happened at 2490 South Wayside Drive as the Cadillac SUV sat in front of the store. Two of the men from the vehicle went inside to grab some items. When they returned to the SUV that's when the attack began.
That's when three men pulled up in two vehicles, a silver Dodge Charger and a silver Mercedes-Benz (model not specified). They were holding what appear to be AK-style rifles with the stocks removed and all three men are described as Hispanic, as you can see in video surveillance screenshots shared by police.
After they started shooting up the Cadillac, two of the men in the luxury SUV jumped out and tried running into the store for cover. One of those men was hit by the gunfire multiple times.
Luis Alfredo Pacheco Rojas, age 34, son of Alfredo Pacheco, President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Dominican Republic was shot and killed. An unnamed second man was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
We don't have many more details about this shooting, but on the surface it sure seems similar to certain cartel-style executions. We also don't know enough about Dominican Republic politics to know who might want to kill Alfredo Pacheco's son.
