Former Vice President Mike Pence will headline a last-minute get-out-the-vote rally for Gov. Brian Kemp hours before Georgia’s May 24 primary.
Though undeniably conservative, Kemp committed an unforgivable sin in Trump’s eye by refusing to overturn Georgia’s presidential election results based on unproven claims of voter fraud. (RELATED: Trump Invests in First Midterm Race – Against This Republican)
Mediaite further reports:
“Brian Kemp is one of the most successful conservative governors in America,” Pence said in a Friday. “Brian Kemp is my friend, a man dedicated to faith, family and the people of Georgia. I am proud to offer my full support for four more years of Brian Kemp as governor of the great state of Georgia!”
Pence’s support for Kemp serves as his latest public rebuttal of the former president, having publicly stated in February that Trump was “wrong” to believe he could overturn the 2020 presidential election on Jan. 6.
Trump has endorsed Kemp’s primary opponent, former Senator David Perdue (R-GA), who has run on the message that the 2020 election was stolen from both him and Trump.
While Trump’s endorsements have been overwhelmingly successful, his vendetta against Kemp has faltered.
By most accounts, Perdue has run a lackluster campaign. In contrast, Kemp has refrained from attacking Trump and pivoted to effectively showcasing his conservative bona fides.
The RealClearPolitics (RCP) polling average shows Kemp enjoying a 22.5-point lead over Perdue in the Republican primary.
Both Kemp and Perdue lead presumptive Democratic nominee Stacey Abrams in hypothetical head-to-head matchups. Kemp has a 5.2-point lead, according to the RCP average. Meanwhile, Perdue has a three-point lead. (RELATED: Stacey Abrams Received Preferential Treatment, Became Multimillionaire)
Despite his double-digit lead in the primary, Kemp isn’t content to play it safe in the homestretch, as The Atlanta Journal-Constitution notes with Pence’s upcoming rally:
The former vice president’s visit is part of Kemp’s all-out approach to the primary. The governor’s advisers don’t want to simply defeat Perdue and avoid an unpredictable June runoff; they want to rout him.

Love Trump, voted for him twice and would vote for him again. BUT, he needs to stay out of state politic unless he lives there. We here in Georgia have no desire to see the likes of Purdue in any position in our state. Another super rich guy who made a fortune off of outsourcing Ga jobs to China and is now bored with life. With absolutely no idea how the majority of Georgians live, he is the worst choice for governor out there. Being mad at Kemp because of what he didn’t do for you is not looking out for what’s best for our states citizens.
