Zachary Levi, best known for his roles in Shazam! and Chuck, made waves over the weekend by voicing his support for former President Donald Trump in the upcoming 2024 presidential election. (The move surprised many of his fans who may remember his previous criticisms of Trump.)
Levi, 44, took center stage at the Team Trump’s Reclaim America Tour in Dearborn, Michigan, on Saturday. While moderating the panel, he addressed the audience with humor, acknowledging the unique situation. “I’m not gonna take too much time, but I did just wanna give you a little context about why Shazam is sitting here talking to you about these various things,” he quipped.
The actor shared that his upbringing in a “Christian conservative” home played a significant role in shaping his worldview. His parents, originally Kennedy Democrats, later became Reagan Republicans. They instilled in him a sense of skepticism toward both government and unchecked industry.
For Levi, this perspective led him to Robert Kennedy Jr., a candidate he admired for his authenticity and vision. He admitted, “In a perfect world, perhaps I would have voted for Bobby.” But after Kennedy Jr. withdrew from the race and endorsed Trump, Levi decided to follow suit, noting that “we don’t live in a perfect world.”
“In fact, we live in a very broken one, we live in a country that has been hijacked by a lot of people who want to take this place way off the cliff,” the actor continued.
“We’re here to make sure that we are going to take back this country, we are going to make it great again, we are going to make it healthy again,” he said, blending Trump and Kennedy Jr.’s campaign slogans. He affirmed his support for Trump as the best choice for the future, noting that Trump’s alliance with Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard gives him the strength and support to lead the nation.
Levi’s endorsement of Trump is not his first newsworthy political announcement. In 2020, he tweeted that he was “no fan or supporter of Trump,” calling out his behavior as “vulgar, callous, narcissistic, and lacking empathy.” However, he also acknowledged that some Trump supporters backed him because they felt he was the only candidate who genuinely cared about their needs.
As for his career, Levi has had an animated journey. He shot to fame as Chuck Bartowski in Chuck and then further solidified his status with his portrayal of Shazam, a superhero in the DC Universe. His blend of humor and action prowess earned him widespread praise from critics, even if Shazam! Fury of the Gods didn’t live up to the expectations set by the original.
Levi’s talents extend beyond film and television. He’s also left an impression on Broadway, earning a Tony Award nomination in 2016 for his role in She Loves Me. In addition, he’s found success as a voice actor, most notably as Flynn Rider in Disney’s Tangled.
Levi’s connection to conservative media figure Jeremy Boreing dates back to the mid-2000s when they co-founded Coattails Entertainment. While Boreing moved on to co-found The Daily Wire with Ben Shapiro, Levi focused on building his Hollywood career.
Despite his shifting political allegiances, his latest endorsement made it clear he’s committed to advocating for the issues he believes in.
Podcaster Joe Rogan, another notable Kennedy campaign supporter, recently shared his excitement over Trump teaming up with Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard.
“One of the things that has people so fired up about this Trump union with Tulsi Gabbard and Robert Kennedy is that you’re seeing movements that seem almost impossible to achieve without an outsider,” Rogan said during a recent episode of his podcast.
Rogan appeared visibly surprised by the group’s “Make America Healthy Again” initiative, which takes a direct stand against Big Pharma and major food corporations.
Rogan praised the decision take on companies that have been donating to both political parties for years, allowing them to push through regulations that let them use dyes in our food that are illegal in Canada.
