Every poll indicated that Gov. Brian Kemp (R-Ga.) held a commanding lead over President Trump’s handpicked challenger, former U.S. Sen. David Perdue, heading into tonight’s primary.
In the end, the polls were correct.
According to election expert Dave Wasserman, of The Cook Political Report, Kemp has cruised to victory, running on his conservative bona fides while judiciously refraining from attacking the former president.
As expected, Gov. Brian Kemp (R) defeats David Perdue (R) in the #GAGOV GOP primary and Herschel Walker (R) wins the GOP nomination for #GASEN.

Stacey Abrams, the former minority leader in the Georgia House of Representatives, won the Democratic nomination.
Prognosticators expect an ultra-competitive gubernatorial election in the Peach State, although most give Kemp a slight edge given that the political environment heavily favors Republicans.
On the Senate side, Republican Herschel Walker dominated his competitors in the GOP primary and will face Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) in the general election.
Meanwhile, with less than 20% of the vote counted, incumbent Brad Raffensperger leads Congressman Jody Hice by 16% in the contentious Republican primary for Georgia secretary of state.
