A jury has found Hillary Clinton-linked campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann not guilty of lying to the FBI. The announcement comes after one day of jury deliberations.
The verdict is a stinging rebuke to Special Counsel John Durham’s investigation.
Durham’s prosecutors alleged Sussmann lied to the FBI when he reached out to the FBI’s then-General Counsel Jim Baker with unverified information linking Trump to a Kremlin-affiliated Russian bank in the fall of 2016. The purported link involving Trump was later debunked.
Despite Sussmann reportedly telling Baker “I’m coming on my own – not on behalf of a client or company,” the jury concluded the prosecution did not prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
The Washington Examiner further reports:
“While we are disappointed in the outcome, we respect the jury’s decision and thank them for their service,” Durham said in a statement after the verdict. “I also want to recognize and thank the investigators and the prosecution team for their dedicated efforts in seeking truth and justice in this case.”
Sussmann, a former Perkins Coie lawyer who represented the Democratic National Committee when it was hacked in 2016, was acquitted after a two-week trial in May after being charged with lying to the FBI about whom he was representing when, in September 2016, he pushed claims of a link between the Trump Organization and Russia’s Alfa-Bank.
He was indicted on a single false statements charge of concealing his clients, Clinton’s campaign and Neustar executive Rodney Joffe, from FBI General Counsel James Baker.

Both prosecution and defense accused each other of “magic tricks” during closing arguments, with the prosecution saying Sussmann was trying to make his crime disappear after the defense team argued Durham was trying to conjure up a crime.
Sussmann did not take the stand during the trial.

The trial should have happened outside of the beltway…somewhere in the middle of the country.

Given the partiality of the judge and the composition of the jury (3 Hillary donors, one AOC donor, a parent of a Sussman daughter’s sports team mate) the best the prosecution could have hoped for was a mistrial.
Everyone knew that the jury was stacked from the beginning, this was just a big joke!!!!
Where I grew up we had a number of “sayings” that apply to what is doing on in Our Judicial System today.
The two that immediately comes to mind are: “The Fix is In and I never met a Judge I could not Buy”! This Jury like the one Officer Chauvin had in Minneapolis was , to be kind, Tainted! President Trump called Washington D.C. a Swamp but it is more like a Cess Pool so full of Waste that most Law Abiding Americans cannot tolerate the Smell! The democrats in particular have infected essentially Every Branch, Department and Agency in the Federal Government and Corrupted It! This is a Toilet that must be Flushed ASAP!
