As California battles one of the costliest wildfire disasters in American history, with tens of thousands of homes destroyed and damage that could exceed $20 billion in insured losses, Democratic lawmakers in the state are reportedly preparing to allocate $50 million in the state budget for litigation against the incoming Trump administration and for efforts to shield illegal migrants from deportation. This move, which comes amid widespread devastation from the Los Angeles wildfires, has sparked intense backlash as critics argue that the state’s priorities are wildly misaligned with the immediate needs of its citizens.
According to reports, California’s Democratic-controlled legislature has proposed splitting the $50 million allocation into two separate funds: $25 million would go to the state Department of Justice to finance legal battles against the anticipated policies of the Trump administration, while the remaining $25 million would be earmarked for grants to left-wing immigration advocacy groups with the goal of protecting illegal migrants from deportation.
California is grappling with one of its most destructive wildfire seasons in memory. A devastating blaze that broke out this week near Los Angeles has already caused substantial property damage, and investigations have revealed that an illegal migrant may have been involved in an attempt to start more fires using a flamethrower. As the death toll rises and thousands of families face the loss of their homes, lawmakers are using taxpayer dollars to fuel legal battles on behalf on noncitizens rather than focusing on immediate relief and recovery efforts.
Senator Scott Wiener, who serves as chair of the state Senate Budget Committee, defended the $50 million proposal, claiming that it was necessary to protect California from what he described as “Trump’s extremist agenda.” Wiener emphasized that the funds would ensure the state remains a “bulwark” against federal immigration policies that threaten California’s sanctuary status.
Critics argue that the state’s priorities should focus on immediate disaster relief, not a political clash with the incoming administration over immigration issues. Republican lawmakers were quick to criticize the proposal, calling it out of touch with the needs of Californians struggling in the wake of the fires.
Republican Assembly Leader James Gallagher was among the loudest critics of the proposal, blasting California Democrats for prioritizing the creation of a $50 million “slush fund” for litigation and advocacy groups while the state continues to face historic wildfire destruction. In a statement on social media, Gallagher emphasized the stark disconnect between what Californians need and what the Democrats are prioritizing: “At a time when California should be laser-focused on responding to the devastating wildfires in LA, Democrat lawmakers’ priority is creating a $50 million slush fund to hire government lawyers for hypothetical fights against the federal government and to defend criminal illegal immigrants from being returned to their home countries.”
Gallagher’s comments reflect a growing frustration among California residents who feel that their elected officials are more focused on political point-scoring than on the practical needs of their constituents. The fires in Los Angeles have already destroyed over 10,000 structures, and the state is struggling to contain them. Yet lawmakers in Sacramento appear more interested in defending illegal immigrants from deportation than in making sure firefighters are adequately funded and equipped to deal with the disaster at hand.
Republicans are calling for a special legislative session dedicated solely to wildfire relief, with a focus on providing financial assistance to victims, improving fire prevention measures, and bolstering emergency response systems. “We shouldn’t be focused on ‘Trump-proofing’ California. We should be focused on fire-proofing California,” said state Senate Minority Leader Brian Jones, voicing the growing concern that the state’s leadership is misallocating resources during a time of crisis.

It is pathetic the difference between North Carolina area and California reporting , nothing is on the news about the legal citizen in N. Carolina area still without anyplace to go , but California wanting donations , government money while making a slush fund of $50 million for illegals while legal citizens do without, California does not deserve a dime from our tax money let them help themselves like North Carolina has been left to do. Voters in California has voted for these democratic politicians and will keep getting the services they voted for, NONE ! Democratic politicians are only concerned about how much they can get for themselves and their power.
IT IS PRETTY SIMPLE, THEY HAVE FALLEN TO COMMUNISM.
I would also like to point out that the money they are allotting for illegals could better be used to provide support for our own homeless citizens, including many deserving veterans. Of course, the Democrats don’t really give a darn about our own citizens. Maybe if you are homeless and want some help you just need to start acting like you just ILLEGALLY came across the border!!
