Boston’s progressive Democrat Mayor Michelle Wu has faced significant criticism for offering condolences to the family of a man who was shot dead by an off-duty police officer while attempting to stab two people at a Chick-fil-A in Copley Square on Saturday.
The incident unfolded around 5:30 p.m. when a man armed with a knife chased two individuals into the restaurant. An off-duty police officer, who was inside the restaurant, quickly identified himself to the attacker and ordered him to drop the knife. According to Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox, the officer attempted to de-escalate the situation, but the attacker refused to comply. The officer then discharged his weapon, striking the man, who was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
While the officer was transported to a hospital for evaluation, there were no other reported injuries from the incident. The attacker’s identity has not been made public, and police have not disclosed any further details about the individual’s background.
Following the shooting, Mayor Wu issued a statement offering her condolences to the family of the attacker. In a press conference, she said, “My condolences and all of our thoughts are with the family of the individual whose life has been lost.” Wu also expressed her relief that the officer was safe and commended the quick response from first responders.
However, many social media users and critics were taken aback by the mayor’s immediate expression of sympathy for the family of the man who had been trying to harm others. Several pointed out the seeming disconnect in prioritizing condolences for the attacker over the lives of the people who were directly threatened by him.
One person on social media wrote, “An off-duty police officer in Boston saved lives on Saturday by neutralizing a knife-wielding maniac who chased two people into a Chick-fil-A. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu reacted by bizarrely giving condolences TO THE ATTACKER. Democrat leaders treat criminals as victims.”
Others were equally critical, questioning Wu’s priorities in the aftermath of the violent encounter. “Seriously?!?!?! Smfh! How about showing concern for the people who this individual tried to attack & were in fear for their life!” one commenter wrote.
“The Boston Mayor is offering her condolences to the family of the victims…wait never mind she’s offering condolences to the person who tried to MURDER people. WTF??” said another.
This is not the first time that Mayor Wu has found herself embroiled in controversy. She was previously criticized after hosting a “no whites” Christmas party exclusively for elected officials of color. The event was not only overtly discriminatory and racist, but raised questions about her judgment and ability to serve.
She is set to testify before Congress on March 5 about Boston’s immigration enforcement (or lack thereof), which has drawn significant attention as she’s repeatedly clashed with Border Czar Tom Homan.

WHAT A DIPCHIT MAYOR!!! THIS IS NOTHING MORE THAN HER CONDONING CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR!!!
Needs to be impeached.
Stupid is as stupid does.
Seijah
Has the drive to tell THE story, not a story. The truth is sometime hard to take, but there is only one truth.
Seijah’s reporting always spot on!
This type of behavior and philosophy, of what is right and what is wrong, is exactly the reasons the Democratic candidates, by far, are losing at the ballot box. When will they ever learn that most of the citizens of this country, that legitimately hold citizenship, have not given over to the Socialist play book.
You assholes in Boston keep voting for scum you end up with , guess what?
If It Does Not Make Sense, Then THAT’S The Way We’re Going To Do It !
