President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser regarding the ongoing issue of homelessness in the nation’s capital. In a Truth Social post on Wednesday, Trump stated that Bowser must take immediate action to clean up the “unsightly homeless encampments” near key landmarks such as the State Department and the White House. If Bowser fails to address the problem, the federal government will step in to handle the situation, Trump said.
Trump’s post emphasized that Washington, D.C. must be “clean and safe” for all citizens and visitors, particularly with foreign dignitaries regularly visiting the capital. “If she is not capable of doing so, we will be forced to do it for her!” Trump wrote. “We want to be proud of our Great Capital again. Thank you Mayor Bowser for your efforts on behalf of the Citizens of our Country. Hopefully, you will be successful!”
This call for action follows Trump’s previous remarks expressing frustration with the state of D.C., particularly with the growing number of homeless encampments and increasing crime. Last month, Trump stated that the city cannot afford to have “too many tents on the lawns” of its most iconic landmarks. While he has been critical of Bowser’s administration, he has also indicated that he respects her personally. The two met in December to discuss shared priorities for Washington, D.C., which Bowser described as a “great meeting.”
Trump’s latest comments came just a day after Bowser announced a major shift regarding the city’s Black Lives Matter Plaza. Initially constructed in 2021 following the widely publicized death of George Floyd and subsequent protests, the plaza was intended as a permanent installation in honor of the Black Lives Matter movement. However, Bowser now says the plaza will be transformed into a series of murals by students and artists as part of the D.C. America 250 project ahead of the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026. Bowser’s office stated that the change reflects the city’s evolving priorities and is necessary due to the “devastating impacts of federal job cuts.”
While Bowser’s office focuses on cultural projects like the plaza’s transformation, Trump’s post underscores the growing urgency surrounding practical concerns, like homelessness and public safety, in the capital. As the city struggles with these pressing issues, both Bowser and Trump have expressed a desire to see Washington, D.C. reflect the strength and beauty of the nation, though their approaches to achieving this goal often differ significantly.
In a landmark ruling in June 2024, the U.S. Supreme Court decided 6-3 that removing homeless individuals from encampments and imprisoning them for repeatedly violating anti-camping laws does not constitute “cruel and unusual punishment” under the Eighth Amendment. The case, City of Grants Pass v. Johnson, became a critical point of focus for city leaders across the nation grappling with rising homelessness, particularly in large cities like Los Angeles, where the homeless population continues to soar.
Justice Neil Gorsuch, who authored the majority opinion, acknowledged the complexities of the homelessness crisis but emphasized that laws against encampments are widely implemented and that the issue should be addressed through the legislative process, not the federal courts. In contrast, Justice Sonia Sotomayor dissented, arguing that punishing individuals for sleeping outside or using minimal resources like blankets or shirts as pillows was inhumane and unconstitutional.

Bowser is too busy conspiring with Pelosi on their next move to RUIN something, ANYTHING, while Trump is in office, just to PROBE how incompetent Trump is.
Don’t forget that she worked hand n glove with Pelosi during the Jan 6 INSURRECTION at the Capitol. Don’t forget that it was the two of them who REFUSED the use of 10,000 National Guard to surround the Capitol on that day, because it would “Make DC look bad.”
