In the early hours of Sunday, March 9, Secret Service agents shot an armed man near the White House following a brief confrontation.
Details are still emerging, but what is known so far is that the incident occurred around midnight at the intersection of 17th Street NW and G Street NW, just a block from the White House.
Local authorities had alerted the Secret Service about a potentially suicidal individual traveling from Indiana to Washington, D.C. Agents located the man’s vehicle near the Eisenhower Executive Office Building and found him nearby on foot. As officers approached, the individual brandished a firearm, leading to an armed confrontation during which Secret Service personnel fired shots.
The man was hospitalized, and his current condition is unknown. No Secret Service personnel were injured during the incident. President Donald Trump was in Florida at the time. The Metropolitan Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division is investigating the shooting.
