In a groundbreaking effort to reform and overhaul the Social Security Administration (SSA), the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), under the leadership of Elon Musk, has uncovered and marked as deceased over 7 million individuals listed in the federal database as above the age of 120. This is part of a broader initiative to improve the integrity of government records and addressing inefficiencies within the SSA system.
The department’s rapid action, which began on March 8, has been part of an extensive cleanup of Social Security data. To date, DOGE has targeted Social Security numbers belonging to Americans listed as 120 years old or older, many of whom have been confirmed as deceased. This marks a major step in an ongoing effort to ensure that only eligible individuals remain in the system, preventing wasteful government spending and ensuring that taxpayer dollars are used efficiently.
The cleanup effort began after DOGE discovered an alarming number of individuals listed in the SSA system with ages that were not just improbable but outright impossible. Some records indicated ages that ranged from 120 to more than 300 years old, raising serious concerns about the integrity of the data and the efficiency of the government’s record-keeping practices.
Elon Musk’s DOGE department has worked quickly to address this issue, marking 7.1 million number holders as deceased in just over two weeks. The total includes individuals from all age ranges above 120, with the largest group falling between the ages of 130 and 149. Additionally, 407,004 individuals listed as being between 150 and 159 years old were also removed from the system on March 24, further showcasing the scale of this cleanup effort.
While the exact number of these “dead” Americans who were receiving benefits is still unknown, it is highly probable that some were receiving Social Security payments despite being deceased. This discovery sheds light on a serious issue with the SSA’s outdated systems and the potential for wasteful government spending.
SSA Acting Commissioner Lee Dudek addressed the importance of transparency in government operations, stating, “This begins with being transparent in how its government makes decisions and operates as good stewards of the resources entrusted to it.”
A key component of these reforms is the overhaul of the SSA’s identity verification requirements. After discovering millions of Americans listed with impossible ages, DOGE’s cleanup effort has focused on removing these outdated or fraudulent records from the system. This initiative is critical not only for improving the accuracy of SSA databases but also for restoring trust in government programs like Social Security, which serve as a vital safety net for millions of Americans.
DOGE has promised to continue publishing weekly reports detailing the number of deceased individuals removed from the SSA’s living count. These reports are expected to give Americans greater insight into the scope of the problem and the progress of the cleanup effort.
As the cleanup progresses, it will likely set a precedent for other government agencies that rely on outdated and inefficient data management systems. If successful, this initiative could serve as a model for addressing inefficiencies in other areas of government spending and bureaucracy.

Probing those bank accounts could yield a LOT of money to return to the treasury. Or it could land a lot of folks in jail who should have their funds put back in the treasury. A study of those receiving the funds if they are indeed being used should yield some VERY interesting statistics.
Marking those SSNs as “deceased” is all well and good, but how many are receiving monthly checks, who has been cashing those checks, for how long, and what steps will be taken to claw back all that money?
So, how many were still receiving disbursements and who was hoarding the checks or cashing them. Being on the list was bad enough but disbursements to those supposedly live recepients is the bigger problem. And I am betting at least part of them were receiving live checks or electronic deposits. Track down those and arrest the ones who were receiving the funds and likely spending them. THIS IS WHY AUDITS ARE NECESSARY SAYS A RETIRED CPA, BSA, PROGRAMMER. Go Trump, go Musk!
When are they gonna find out where the money Went? Somebody was cashing the checks.
