Dr. Kevin O’Connor, the longtime personal physician to former President Joe Biden, invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination during a closed-door session with the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday.
The committee, chaired by Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), is investigating whether Biden’s cognitive decline was concealed during his presidency. O’Connor, who served as Biden’s physician during his four years in the White House and for 12 years prior, declined to answer two key questions: whether he misrepresented the president’s health to the public, and whether he ever personally doubted Biden’s ability to carry out his duties.
As The New York Post reports, in both instances — he took the Fifth:
“This is unprecedented, and I think that this adds more fuel to the fire that there was a cover-up,” Comer declared.
In a subsequent statement, the Kentucky Republican added it was “clear there was a conspiracy to cover up” the 46th president’s declining mental acuity.
“Congress must assess legislative solutions to prevent such a cover-up from happening again,” he added. “We will continue to interview more Biden White House aides to get the answers Americans deserve.”
In an unusual move, the committee posted footage of O’Connor’s aborted closed-door interview on X, tweeting: “What are they hiding?”

O’Connor’s attorney cited doctor-patient confidentiality and an ongoing Department of Justice investigation as grounds for his client’s silence.
The only question O’Connor did answer was confirming his name.
The broader probe also continues to examine the use of an autopen to sign official presidential documents and the decision-making structure inside the Biden White House — areas Republicans say raise serious concerns about transparency, accountability, and who was really in charge.
