Radio personality Charlamagne Tha God sent a surprising message to President Donald J. Trump on Monday, telling him directly, “I’m rooting for you, but I need you focused,” in response to a scathing post from the president on Truth Social that labeled the radio host a “racist sleazebag” and “low IQ individual.”
Speaking on The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne addressed Trump: “Listen, President Trump, don’t worry about Charlamagne Tha God. I know something I said hit a nerve — but I don’t want you rattled. I want you to end wars, okay? I want you to keep the border secure. I want you to have the economy booming. I want all of these things to be true. I am an American. I don’t care who’s in the White House, I want America to succeed.”
Charlamagne added, “Believe it or not, I’m rooting for you — but I need you focused.”
“Focus on the Economy and Epstein”
The radio host then emphasized what he sees as the top priorities for the country — and the Trump administration: “We need you focused on two things: the economy, and Epstein. I need you to keep the promises of a great economy and the promises of transparency with the Epstein files. And I don’t want us as a people to be distracted.”
The remarks came in response to Trump’s Sunday Truth Social post in which the president blasted Charlamagne following a Saturday interview with Lara Trump on Fox News’ My View. The president wrote, “The very wonderful and talented Lara Trump, whose show is a big ratings success, put racist sleazebag Charlamagne ‘The God’ (Why is he allowed to use the word ‘GOD’ when describing himself? Can anyone imagine the uproar there would be if I used that nickname?)”
“He’s a Low IQ individual, has no idea what words are coming out of his mouth, and knows nothing about me or what I have done,” Trump added.
President Trump went on to highlight his administration’s accomplishments during the first six months of his second term, including:
- Ending five international conflicts, including the 31-year war between the Republic of the Congo and Rwanda
- Mediating peace between India and Pakistan, leading to a Nobel Peace Prize nomination
- Crippling Iran’s nuclear ambitions
- Closing the southern border
- Driving inflation and prices down through energy independence and supply-side reforms
Charlamagne pushed back on some of those claims but did acknowledge at least one of Trump’s points, saying, “You have definitely made the border harder to cross,” though he added he believes the border is still not fully closed.
Resurgence of the GOP “Old Guard”
In his interview with Lara Trump, Charlamagne suggested that the Epstein case could be a wedge issue to fracture the Republican Party’s Trump-aligned base and empower the old establishment wing.
“I think that this Epstein thing is going to be a way for traditional conservatives to take their party back,” Charlamagne said, referencing the long-dormant but increasingly spotlighted demand for answers regarding Jeffrey Epstein’s client list and criminal network.
Lara Trump challenged the idea, stating, “We’ve never seen a typical election since the day that Donald Trump came down the golden escalator. The game changed.”
Charlamagne insisted that after Trump’s second term ended, the same rules wouldn’t apply. “Say what you want, Donald Trump is a once-in-a-lifetime political juggernaut. You’re not going to be him. Republicans trying to imitate him will fail — just like Democrats trying to imitate Obama failed.”
“I Don’t Mind Being Called a Sleazebag”
Charlamagne responded to Trump’s insults with humor and sarcasm. “I looked up the definition of ‘sleazebag’ — a disgusting or despicable person. Depending on who you ask, that may apply to me,” he said. He even joked about being called “low IQ,” saying, “I’ve never taken an IQ test. And yeah, sometimes I’m surprised by what comes out of my own mouth.”
But despite the back-and-forth jabs, the radio host’s central message remained clear: he wants Trump to stay focused on key priorities that matter to the American people — especially economic prosperity and government transparency.
Background: Trump’s Nobel Nomination and Border Crackdown
Charlamagne’s skepticism of Trump’s accomplishments is at odds with growing international recognition of the president’s efforts abroad. In June, Pakistan formally nominated President Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his role in brokering a ceasefire with India.
Meanwhile, border enforcement under Trump’s second term has reached historic levels. In July, Border Patrol agents recorded just 4,600 illegal crossings, with zero migrant releases into the interior for the third straight month. DHS has called it the “most secure border in history.”
While Charlamagne and Trump clearly don’t see eye to eye on every issue, the radio host’s admission that he’s rooting for Trump’s success may reflect a wider sentiment among Americans: politics aside, results matter.
