Trump Calls for RICO as the Answer to Sanctuary City Chaos

Democrat-controlled sanctuary cities have become more than defiant municipalities; they have matured into hubs of organized rebellion against the sovereignty of the United States. Under the pretense of compassion, these jurisdictions have constructed a system that not only shields illegal immigration but also empowers it. What began as passive resistance has transformed into active subversion, where radical groups like Unión del Barrio (UdB) exploit sanctuary policies to weave criminal networks that assist illegal aliens, including violent gang members.

The claim of sanctuary leaders is simple: they say they are merely refusing to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement. That sounds passive, even benign. But the reality is darker. In practice, many of these jurisdictions go beyond non-cooperation. They tip off illegal immigrants about enforcement actions. They forge operational partnerships with activist groups that feed intelligence to gangs. Colorado and California stand out as prime examples. In Colorado, during a past series of raids, ICE operations against the criminal network TdA were leaked before agents even arrived, allowing more than 100 gang members to escape. Instead of securing criminals, ICE officers were met with bullhorn-wielding activists, clearly forewarned and strategically deployed to block arrests. This was not civil disobedience. It was a coordinated campaign to obstruct federal law enforcement.

The culpability does not rest solely with city officials. Groups like UdB are driving this resistance. UdB openly calls for the overthrow of the US government. Their ideological lineage is not drawn from Martin Luther King or Gandhi but from Fidel Castro, Hugo Chávez, the Black Panthers, and the Brown Berets. UdB’s tactics include forging documents, weapons training, and obstructing federal officers. Their members run community patrols designed not to protect neighborhoods but to expel ICE officers. These are not advocacy efforts. They are militant operations.

Consider the training programs run by UdB. They are not limited to legal workshops. They teach surveillance techniques, counter-intelligence maneuvers, and physical resistance to deportation raids. They coordinate with friendly media outlets to amplify their disruption. The Soros-backed network of 200 radio stations offers a platform. Just last month, UdB tipped off a San Francisco station, KCBS 740 AM, during ICE operations in San Jose. The station broadcasted live the locations of undercover ICE vehicles, compromising federal agents and endangering their lives. This was not journalism. It was material support for criminal obstruction.

Sanctuary jurisdictions enable this insurgency. By refusing to enforce federal law, they cultivate environments where UdB and its allies can operate safe houses, manufacture fake documents, and run intelligence networks. Each of these activities violates federal law. Together, they form a criminal enterprise.

Here the legal tools are clear. The Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, or RICO, was crafted to dismantle mafia syndicates. Its provisions fit perfectly here. Under RICO, a criminal enterprise is any group engaged in repeated illegal acts as part of a larger conspiracy. UdB meets this definition. So do the sanctuary officials who knowingly collaborate with them. The pattern of obstruction, forgery, conspiracy, and material support constitutes racketeering. And under RICO, both the activists and their government enablers can be prosecuted.

The stakes are not theoretical. UdB has forged ties with gangs like MS-13 and TdA. These are not abstract connections. They are working relationships. When raids are leaked, it is the gang members who walk free. When safe houses are opened, it is traffickers and drug smugglers who find shelter. The cost is measured in more than legal abstractions. It is measured in lives lost to gang violence, in communities terrorized by drug cartels, in human beings trafficked across borders.

Sanctuary officials defend their actions with rhetoric about compassion. But compassion for whom? Not for the victims of MS-13. Not for the families shattered by fentanyl overdoses. Not for the women trafficked across the border. Compassion, in this context, has become a shield for lawlessness. By defending the networks that shield criminals, these officials are accomplices to the very crimes that harm the most vulnerable.

The federal government must act decisively. The Department of Justice, under Attorney General Pam Bondi, has both the authority and the duty to pursue RICO charges against UdB and allied organizations. City officials who provide material support to obstruction efforts must be investigated and, where warranted, prosecuted. Sanctuary cities that will not comply with federal law should see their federal funding cut. Congress and the administration must also grant ICE and other federal agencies greater autonomy to conduct operations without the sabotage of local jurisdictions.

This is not about punishing immigrants. It is about dismantling criminal enterprises that exploit immigrants while undermining the rule of law. The United States cannot function as a sovereign nation if its federal laws are actively sabotaged by local jurisdictions. The integrity of immigration enforcement is not optional. It is foundational.

President Trump himself underscored the urgency of this fight today in a post on Truth Social. He wrote, “George Soros, and his wonderful Radical Left son, should be charged with RICO because of their support of Violent Protests, and much more, all throughout the United States of America. We’re not going to allow these lunatics to rip apart America any more, never giving it so much as a chance to ‘BREATHE,’ and be FREE. Soros, and his group of psychopaths, have caused great damage to our Country! That includes his Crazy, West Coast friends. Be careful, we’re watching you! Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump’s words highlight the seriousness with which his administration views the misuse of money, media, and radical activism to shield criminals and undermine the sovereignty of the nation. The president has signaled clearly that RICO is not just an option but a necessity.

Sanctuary cities are no longer safe havens for the vulnerable. They are staging grounds for rebellion against federal authority. Groups like UdB have weaponized this rebellion, aligning with violent gangs and leveraging media allies to obstruct enforcement. The evidence is overwhelming. What we are witnessing is not civil disobedience but organized crime. The proper response is not handwringing or negotiation but decisive legal action. The RICO statutes exist for exactly this purpose. They should be used now.
