President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said they have agreed on a plan to end the war in Gaza and are awaiting Hamas’ response.
On Monday, Trump unveiled a 20-point peace plan that includes a postwar vision for Gaza led by an international transitional authority called the “Board of Peace.” The White House said the proposal is aimed at stabilizing the territory once hostilities end.
Per The Hill:
As chair of the “transitional” body, Trump would oversee the framework and funding for redevelopment of the Gaza Strip until a time when the Palestinian Authority, the governing body in the West Bank, has met conditions to assume governance in the Gaza Strip. Israel’s military would slowly scale back its presence.
“This body will call on best international standards to create modern and efficient governance that serves the people of Gaza and is conducive to attracting investment,” according to the plan.
Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair will also be a member of the body, according to the White House proposal.
The plan was announced shortly before Trump was set to give a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House.
The proposed Gaza International Transitional Authority (GITA) would include representations from the U.N., Arab states, and Palestinian technocrats. It would operate from outside Gaza initially (e.g. El-Arish, Egypt) before moving in as security allows.
Legal, logistical, and diplomatic hurdles remain: it’s unclear how Israel, Hamas, or Arab neighbors would accept this arrangement; how security forces would be structured; and how property rights, refugee return, and reconstruction would be handled.
