Michael Reagan, the eldest son of former President Ronald Reagan and a longtime conservative commentator, has died after a battle with cancer. He was 80.
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Institute announced his death on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026, stating that Reagan had died peacefully two days earlier, surrounded by family.

Born John Charles Flaugher in March 1945, Reagan was adopted by Ronald Reagan and his first wife, actress Jane Wyman, hours after his birth.
Though best known for his famous last name, Reagan built an independent public career in conservative media, serving as a radio talk-show host, syndicated columnist, author, and political commentator.

He hosted The Michael Reagan Show and contributed commentary to outlets including Newsmax, Fox News, CNN, The Today Show, and Good Morning America. Over the years, Reagan became a familiar voice defending conservative principles and his father’s legacy as president.
Reagan also wrote several books, including memoirs that reflected on his personal life, his relationship with his father, and the ideas that shaped Ronald Reagan’s political philosophy.
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation described him as a “steadfast guardian of his father’s legacy,” noting that his life was shaped by conviction and purpose.

Reagan is survived by his wife, Colleen, and their two children.
