Flashback: The ATF’s Silliest Regulation Will Leave You Dumbfounded

Ever wondered what the worst decision by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) was? We’d argue it was a 2007 ruling that left millions shaking their heads.

Indeed, it solidified complaints that the agency infringes on our Second Amendment rights.

The ruling revolves around a 14-inch long shoestring jerry-rigged to the cocking handle of a semiautomatic rifle. With that crude setup, the semi-auto could fire repeatedly as long as the shooter’s finger remained on the trigger.

Naturally, the ATF used this to declare the shoestring a machine gun “as defined in 26 U.S.C. 5845(b).”

Glad to see our government only hires the best and the brightest…
