Ohio Senate candidate Rep. Tim Ryan (D) echoed President Biden’s recent attacks on what he calls “MAGA Republicans” during an interview with MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” In a bizarre attempt to attract undecided Republican voters Ryan said that Democrats need to “kill and confront” the extremist wing of the GOP.
MSNBC host Willie Geist invited Ryan onto the program to discuss the high-profile race and ideally provide a surge in support for the Democrat Senate hopeful in a state with a considerable Republican base. Rep. Ryan is competing against best-selling author J.D. Vance, who was also endorsed by former President Trump.
What is your message to Ohio Republicans in this general election who may look at J.D. Vance and say, ‘I don’t like the way he’s running the campaign, maybe I don’t like the guy,’ and are giving you a look?” Geist asked the Democrat Ohio Representative.
Ryan immediately dove into his voting record and touted himself as one of the most bipartisan members of Congress.
“Well, I would say, one, I’m one of the most bipartisan members of Congress. The last two congresses I have been in the top 10% of most bipartisan. I want to work across the aisle.”
In a thinly-veiled attempt to look relatable to prospective voters Rep. Ryan even hit at his own party.
“Look, the Democrats aren’t right on everything, and I’m willing to sit down and have conversations about how we can move out of this age of stupidity and into an age of reconciliation and reform.”
“How do we fix all of these broken systems?” he rhetorically asked. Breaking the Republican Party into two camps, he answered his own question, “Some of those answers will come from Republicans – not the extremists that we’re dealing with every single day.”
“We have to kill and confront that movement,” Ryan told Geist, before arguing that only “normal mainstream Republicans” are worth dealing with.
Despite trying to paint himself as a great unifier, Rep. Ryan has repeatedly attacked Vance’s conservative beliefs and accused him of parroting Trump talking points and ideals. The race is expected to be tight and will likely be one of the most closely-watched races in the country.
There goes Rep. Ryan’s bipartisan narrative…

I am no Democrat, but if you read toward the end of the article, he said “kill. the MOVEMENT”. To be fair, the quote was not referring to killing Republicans, but rather “killing the movement”. So not really the same thing.

I live in Northern Ohio. Mr. Ryan is a big Union guy. He will ALWAYS vote for enlarging the Federal Government because it employs UNION folks. If you are non-Union, too bad. Your high taxes (courtesy of Mr. Ryan) will provide a comfortable lifestyle for hoards of these Democrat workers….like 87,000 IRS agents!
