President Joe Biden has said he will make a decision on whether to run for reelection following the November midterm elections. While that makes political sense for Team Biden, that doesn’t mean Democratic voters have forgotten about him. Hardly.
According to a Washington Post/ABC News poll, they want Mr. Biden to step aside and let someone else take the nomination in 2024:
…just 35% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents favor Biden for the 2024 nomination; 56% want the party to pick someone else.
Any major party incumbent would look at such a number and start revising the ol’ resume. There’s a reasonable chance that is exactly what Biden does, particularly if Democrats fare poorly in November.
On that score, the GOP currently appears to have certain advantages. While abortion breaks strongly for Democrats and has forced some Republicans in close races to trim their anti-abortion sails, the economy still tops the list of voter concerns:
Seventy-four percent say the economy is in bad shape, up from 58% in the spring after Biden took office. The GOP leads the Democrats by 16 points in trust to handle the economy overall and by 19 points in trust to handle inflation. Equally important, 84% call the economy a top issue in their vote for Congress and 76% say the same about inflation. Many fewer, 62%, call abortion a top issue.
To be fair, the economy and jobs are almost always top issues with voters – for good reason. Those issues affect them personally, every day. So it’s no wonder that the majority party (Democrats) will suffer at the polls when voters think hard times are either coming fast or already here.
And there was also this tidbit in the poll:
Republicans and GOP-leaning independents, for their part, split 47%-46% on whether Donald Trump should be their 2024 nominee – a 20-point drop for Trump compared with his 2020 nomination.
Which seems to indicate there could be a fight for the GOP nomination. We shall see.
As for a rematch of the 2020 race, polling shows:
In a head-to-head rematch, the poll, produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates, finds a 48%-46% Biden-Trump contest, essentially tied. Among registered voters, the numbers reverse to 46%-48%. That’s even while 52% of Americans say Trump should be charged with a crime in any of the matters in which he’s under federal investigation, similar to views after the storming of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.
On this, too, we’ll have to see what emerges after this November’s results are in. The last time there was a presidential election rematch was 1956, when President Dwight Eisenhower won a landslide victory over Democratic nominee Adlai Stevenson.

Obviously we’re all entitled to our opinions and beliefs. However, I strongly feel the next, and probably all the rest of the elections from now on will be fraudulent with so-called democrats who’re nothing but either Fascists or communists “winning.” As that great socialist leader, Josef Stalin said it a speech. “To stay in power we have to lie, cheat, steal and kill.” I can’t help but feel those now running our country into the ground have already done most if not all of those things.

Pretty good analysis. The title, however, is interesting. Years ago, in a course on government, the term “man on a white horse” as in, “the French have always been looking for a man on a white horse” was used to describe French politics. This was during the time when deGaulle had taken the French presidency after the tumultuous post-war years of the Fourth Republic. Turns out the French weren’t so different from us. Obama was “the one”; Trump was MAGA; Biden was going to save us from the evil MAGA; and now Republican Split on Possible Savior? In our zeal to look to a man on a white horse we seem to have forgotten that we are a republic and the legislature should hold sway. The man on the white horse cannot fix it by himself. Therefore, we should probably stop with the “savior” business – at least for now – and worry about electing a House and Senate that will, to the degree the federal government can, stop the bleeding and legislate in the direction of a return to constitutional government. Obviously the path to doing so will be better with a president who believes similarly and has the drive an initiative to support that return. He does not have to be “a man on a white horse” – a “savior” because anyone who sees himself or herself as such will overstep the boundaries of the office and will inevitably be sharply reminded of his or her mortality – to the nation’s detriment. He or she does need to be forthright, upright, decent, and incorruptible – a tall order.
Sounds like President Trump!
I call B.S. on your poll. There is no way a half way sensible person would rather live in biden’s down-trodden America than President Trump’s Free and Prosperous America. Just look at Trump’s rallies almost 2 years after leaving office, thousands upon thousands wait in line. biden’s largest group has been about 30 people. No, your polls are biased and do not show reality.
