President Biden’s lawyers have found more classified documents from the Obama administration in the garage of Mr. Biden’s Delaware home.
The latest revelation comes mere days after White House attorney Richard Sauber said the president’s lawyers found a “small number” of classified documents at Mr. Biden’s former Washington, D.C. office.
Attorney General Merrick Garland has responded by appointing a special counsel to investigate Mr. Biden’s handling of classified documents.
Per CNBC:
Garland tapped Robert Hur to serve as special counsel. Garland previously had assigned John Lausch, the U.S. Attorney for Chicago, to handle the inquiry after the first batch of records were discovered in November.
“This is not a decision [Garland] made lightly,” a senior Department of Justice official told NBC News.
“The regulations could not be more clear that based on the facts that made the US attorney launch his initial investigation, an appointment of a special counsel is required.”
Republicans had increasingly called on Garland to appoint a special counsel.
