Congresswoman and Husband Hit by Car

A car hit Rep. , D-Ore., and her husband as the couple crossed the street in a crosswalk in Portland, .

Bonamici received a concussion and a laceration to her head. Bonamici's communications director, Natalie Crofts, shared the news on Saturday. Crofts added that the representative's husband was treated for minor injuries.

Health care professionals expect Bonamici to make a full recovery. She's not expected to attend public events while she recuperates.

Bonamici was first elected to the House in 2012 after winning a special election to succeed Democrat David Wu, who resigned following allegations he made sexual advances.

Bonamici represents Oregon's 1st District, a reliably Democratic seat in the Portland area that President would have carried by 39 points in 2020. She won a sixth full term in November by 36 points.
