In the latest example of The Washington Post reporting false information in attacks on Republicans, the newspaper admitted to misrepresenting key facts in a story attacking first-term Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla.
Researchers and media organizations also found serious problems with other claims the Post made in its story, which ironically accuses Luna of falsifying her biography.
The Post is the only newspaper in history forced to return a Pulitzer Prize when it was forced to admit its 1980 Prize-winning series on the harrowing life of an eight-year-old heroin addict had been completely made up by the reporter.
In its original story, the Post claimed Luna had been a registered Democrat while living in Washington state three years before running for Congress in Florida, a claim that made it through several Post editors and fact-checkers.
Luna, who served in the Air Force, moved around the country frequently during her military service.
While Washington state requires voters casting a ballot in a primary election to state in which party primary they want to vote, it does not register voters by party.
Even in admitting its error, the Post attempted to mislead readers.
The paper blamed “an erroneous voter reg database,” making it sound like the error was a result of the state keeping inaccurate records rather than the reporter not bothering to find out what state election law was.
“So sorry for the error!,” reporter Jacqueline Alemany chirped.
The Post’s story also made other claims about Luna which were quickly disproven.
The Post story also implied Luna and her mother were lying when they spoke of her father, George Mayewrhofer’s, arrest and imprisonment on drug charges. Mayerhofer died in a 2022 automobile accident.
The Post reported no records of Mayerhofer’s incarceration existed, leading to claims Luna made up the story.
Luna and the Daily Caller, however, quickly found the records showing his incarceration were easily available on Orange County, California’s website.
The Post was also forced to add a “clarification” after blatantly misrepresenting a break-in at her apartment when she lived in Missouri, claiming Luna was carrying a gun and the source they spoke to was the only person interviewed by police.
In reality, Luna was not carrying a gun, the police interviewed multiple people and the Post interviewed at least one other person but did not quote or even mention him after he revealed she was not carrying.
“As I’ve said before, and as the Washington Post has clearly showcased, anyone who is a conservative minority is a threat to Leftist control,” Luna told Fox News Digital. “They can try to discredit me, but unfortunately for them, the facts completely blow their story out of the water.”

The Washington Com-Post has made mistakes before but it has more to do with who they employ and their journalistic ethics than anything else.
