Tenants at a city-supervised affordable housing complex in the Bronx are blasting Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s administration after learning their rents will rise by more than 30% over the next four years despite the mayor’s campaign promises on affordability and rent freezes.

Residents of Tracey Towers, an 871-unit Mitchell-Lama development in Jerome Park serving middle- and moderate-income families, were told during a tense Wednesday meeting that their rents would increase beginning next year.

The announcement quickly triggered anger from tenants who said the hike directly contradicts the affordability message Mamdani used to.

NATIONAL SECURITY

S Korea, Japan scramble jets due to China-Russia joint air patrol. China’s defense ministry says joint patrol with Russian bomber aircraft was part of exercises that first started in 2019.

US, Japanese, Philippine coast guard ships stage drills. They have staged law enforcement drills in waters near the disputed South China Sea.

US Marines to join allied troops in Australia for combined force exercise. The Marines will kick off a month of field training alongside Australian and Japanese troops next week, a precursor to one of the largest military exercises in the Pacific the next month.

Makin Island ARG, 13th MEU deployment marks amphibious shift to the Pacific. When the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group returns from deployment this week, it will mark the beginning of a shift in how amphibious forces deploy globally – shifting naval resources away from the Middle East to the Western Pacific.

US sanctions group of people and firms from Iran, China and Hong Kong tied to Iran ballistic program. They are all associated with the alleged development of Iran’s ballistic missile program.

US MILITARY

    America’s military has become a joke to the world.. Pentagon is a disgrace..Air Force has shown how unamerican they are. Navy is just as bad.
