The Joe Biden presidency is a shambles. It is confronted by a resurgent China, war in Ukraine, high inflation, consumer pessimism, a potential recession, questions about his competency and a myriad of other issues. Yet what may be Biden’s undoing is a four-year-old child – Navy Roberts (Hunter’s daughter out of wedlock and Joe’s granddaughter).
The New York Times reported that Biden’s staff has been instructed to say that Biden has only six grandchildren, thus excluding Navy. The story also included a bit that Navy knows who her grandfather is and could be scarred by the way she has been treated. This is damaging stuff coming from one of Biden’s favorite newspapers. Following The New York Times story, there was outrage but not from the usual suspects. Yes, the conservative media and politicians called Biden out, but so did the left. Progressive commentators condemned Biden for not including Navy. Forget his policy failures, scandals and lies which they never batted an eye at, not including Navy outraged them. Now Maureen Dowd, The New York Times-leading columnist who has never found an issue with any Democrat was out with a column condemning Biden for his treatment of Navy. When a Democrat has lost Maureen Dowd they are in serious trouble.
Most Americans disagree with Biden’s treatment of Navy. It goes against the brand he has ingrained since the 1970s of being a family man, loving father and then later doting grandfather, plain Joe from Scranton. Americans buy into the perceived brand of their leaders – Eisenhower was the kindly grandfather and Reagan was out of Hollywood with main street values. When a president goes against their perceived brand they are finished (just ask Jimmy Carter what happened with the meanness issue). Now the Biden brand has been shown to be false. The real Joe Biden is being exposed. The latest media story talks about his ranting and cursing at the White House staff. The emperor truly has no clothes. The outrage on the left is merely crocodile tears. They have been looking for a way to force Biden from seeking a second term. They realize voters do not want another Biden White House bid, yet Joe has been resistant to exit. Navy Roberts serves their purpose. They can shake their heads and tsking tsking about how horrible he has been with his granddaughter, as his negatives rise. At the same time, they lavish praise on his most obvious replacement – California’s Gavin Newsom. Newsom is on the airwaves everywhere with interviews and advertisements in red states. Newsom takes on Florida’s Ron DeSantis and other Republican governors. The mainstream media is portraying Newsom as a ‘moderate pro-business Democrat’ (forget the fact businesses are fleeing California because of his policies) and in the final kick a doting father and husband. For other voters, it reveals the Joe Biden that many in Washington have long known, a cold callous, and uncaring individual. The fact that Biden is doing this to a four-year-old child is even more alarming and troubling for voters. Unlike the Hunter Biden scandal and others, this story resonates with voters because it has a human face and is easy to understand. How do you counter the story of the uncaring grandfather? You can’t attack the child or the mother (although some Biden people may). You can’t say that a four-year-old child is colluding with Republicans. There is no way to counter it.
Joe Biden has considered himself politically invulnerable. His political adversaries have hit him with traditional attacks, and he would use the threat of the return of Donald Trump to ward them off. Now a four-year-old is about to achieve what many experienced political hands have failed, the demise of Joe Biden.
