On Tuesday, Sage Steele announced her exit from ESPN after nearly two decades with the Disney-owned network.
In a “life update” published on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, the prominent sports anchor said she is leaving the network so she can “exercise [her] first amendment rights more freely.”
“I am grateful for so many wonderful experiences over the past 16 years and am excited for my next chapter!” Steele wrote.
ESPN told Fox News Digital in a statement: “ESPN and Sage Steele have mutually agreed to part ways. We thank her for her many contributions over the years.”
The veteran broadcaster claimed the network breached her contract over its reaction to remarks she made in September 2021 podcast interview, when she spoke out against parent company Disney’s vaccine mandate and swiped former President Obama for identifying as Black and not biracial.
Steele’s lawsuit accused ESPN of selective enforcement of its policy that bars news employees from commenting on politics and social issues. The suit alleged ESPN “violated Connecticut law and Steele’s rights to free speech based upon a faulty understanding of her comments and a nonexistent, unenforced workplace policy that serves as nothing more than pretext,” and claimed the network relied on “inaccurate third-party accounts of Steele’s comments” and “did not immediately review the actual comments or the context in which they were made.”
Steele issued an apology for the remarks after the podcast interview but said the apology was forced upon her by the network.

She isn’t the first to leave a liberal agenda driven ‘news’ format and I sincerely hope she isn’t the last. Others who have left liberal media were pretty much ‘liberal for life’ journalists or investigators over our current ‘kept in line’ reporters who do no research either on the story or of the sources. Hey, there are soul sellers everywhere. Willing to say & do whatever so long as they get paid well and if luckier, get enough fame to at least appear to mingle with the elite. It takes a person with special courage & integrity to admit mistakes or reveal corruption. While Ms Sage (no offense using MS.) may not be as famous as those who resigned from the left agenda before her, she is every bit deserving of our respect for standing up to corruption and intimidation.
