Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) is wasting no time criticizing former President Donald Trump's endorsement of former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.), calling the Republican gunning for Michigan's open U.S. Senate seat “the worst Deep State candidate this cycle” in a scathing tweet.
Paul posted to X shortly after Trump's endorsement, receiving tens of thousands of likes while venting his frustration. “Donald Trump just endorsed the worst Deep State candidate this cycle. @MikeRogersForMI is a never Trumper, and a card carrying member of the spy state that seeks to destroy Trump. You have to ask yourself who gives Trump this awful advice? Who's next, John Bolton?” (RELATED: Senator Drops Retirement Bombshell, Leaving Key Race In Chaos)
The Kentucky Republican shared a video of Rogers criticizing Trump and predicting that he would not become the Republican nominee for president in 2024.
Despite Rogers' debatable America First bona fides, Trump endorsed him over former Republican-turned-independent Rep. Justin Amash and former moderate GOP Rep. Peter Meijer, among others.
The Detroit News has more on the 45th president's endorsement:
Trump in a post on social media called Rogers “highly respected” and said he'd served his country during a career “loaded up with accolades and wins, from the Army to Congress, and now, hopefully, the U.S. Senate.”
“Mike will work closely with me to enact our America First Policies. He will tirelessly fight to Secure the Border, Stop Inflation, Grow the Economy, Strengthen our Military / Veteran Support, and Protect and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment,” Trump wrote.
“Mike Rogers will be a Great and Powerful Senator for Michigan, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement. HE KNOWS HOW TO WIN!”
“Thank you, Mr. President! Excited to get to work with you to Get America and Michigan Back on Track!” Rogers responded enthusiastically after receiving the coveted Trump endorsement.
Rogers has already faced criticism from some of his primary opponents for previous negative comments he made about the former president.
Businessman Sandy Pensler even released an ad in January with clips of Rogers calling Trump's behavior “petty” and “below the stature of the office.”
Nevertheless, Rogers served on Trump's transition team in 2016 and personally endorsed his 2024 candidacy when he met with him last month at a rally outside Detroit. (RELATED: Fmr. Senior Trump Adviser Receives Devastating News)
