Independent Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema announced on Tuesday afternoon that she will not run for reelection.
The development puts MAGA loyalist Kari Lake on the path to challenging progressive Democrat Ruben Gallego in November’s general election.

A far-left activist in her youth, Sinema won the 2018 Arizona U.S. Senate election as a moderate Democrat but later became an independent in 2022.
