Kyrsten Sinema Announces Imminent Retirement From US Senate

-

Independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema announced on Tuesday afternoon that she will not run for reelection.

The development puts MAGA loyalist on the path to challenging progressive Democrat in November's general election.

Citing dysfunction in Washington and increasing political polarization, Sinema announced, “I will leave the Senate at the end of this year.” (RELATED: Big Name Enters Senate Race In Key State)

A far-left activist in her youth, Sinema won the 2018 Arizona election as a moderate Democrat but later became an independent in 2022.

In an ironic twist, leftists who once heralded her victory as a sign of progressive inroads in Arizona, cheered today's development, calling her an enabler of GOP obstructionism in the Senate. (RELATED: Senator Squares Up To Fight Wimpy Activist)

Before her announcement, Cook Political Report considered Sinema's reelection a toss-up.
