Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent acknowledged Wednesday that he threatened to “kick ass” during a heated confrontation last year, while firmly denying reports that he threatened to punch the now-acting Director of National Intelligence “in the face.”
The unusual exchange emerged during a Senate Finance Committee hearing, where Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) pressed Bessent about reports surrounding a confrontation between the two Trump administration officials during the summer of 2025.
According to Bessent, one key detail in the widely circulated account was inaccurate.
While he denied threatening.

Help “The League” Fight the Left’s Anti-Gun Agenda!With the swift stroke of a pen, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed his state’s constitutional carry bill into law on Tuesday afternoon.
Prior to heading to the governor’s desk, the Georgia House voted 100-67 to pass Senate Bill 319, and the Georgia State Senate voted 34-22 to concur with the House’s amendments to Senate Bill 319.
Georgia is now the 25th state to pass and sign constitutional carry and the fourth state to do so this year.
“This is a monumental moment for the Second Amendment, NRA members and gun owners nationwide,” said Jason Ouimet, executive director of NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action. “Half the country now rightfully recognizes the fundamental right to carry a firearm for self-defense as enshrined in our Constitution — as opposed to a government privilege that citizens must ask permission to exercise. Passing this essential legislation has been a priority for the NRA for many years, and we’re thrilled to celebrate this huge success.”
Other states that have signed constitutional carry legislation this year are Alabama, Indiana and Ohio.
As we saw on Monday afternoon, the federal government is working overtime to carry out a full-fledged assault on our Second Amendment rights.
Addressing the nation from the Rose Garden earlier this week, President Joe Biden announced Steven Dettelbach as his new nominee for the position of ATF director, urged Congress to pass universal background checks and revealed the enactment of a new rule to address what he called “the epidemic of ghost gun violence.”
Thankfully, states are instead acting to protect law-abiding gun owners.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is planning to address constitutional carry during a special legislative session later this month.
It is worth noting that Nebraska lawmakers anticipated passing similar legislation this year, but the bills were stopped dead in their tracks in the state’s unicameral legislature this week. When asked about the bill in a Facebook comment, Nebraska State Senator Julie Slama — a true conservative Republican — had the following response, “thank the seven senators who switched from ‘Yes’ to ‘Present, Not Voting’ or ‘No’ in the second round.”
Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts echoed Senator Slama’s sentiments on LB 773, saying he was “sorry to see it fail in the NELeg today.”
